If a hardware switch is allowed, then it’s pretty obvious to me that every single multi boxer will just switch to that.
You get my gold star award for the day.
I don’t think that is possible with large numbers of accounts.
A lot of them will. The ones operating on multiple machines will anyway.
Bluzzard can through ToS look at the memory space they occupy. They can’t go hunting for what hardware you might have setup on your machine. They can’t access your cameras or microphones. That’s when they cross into illegal territory.
So if someone goes the hardware route that’s it. Game over. The cost is going to be more rudimentary multiboxing. Aka hyperspawn farming and node farming but not dungeons and M+ like some of us were doing.
They throw a stone and kill the wrong bird. Very Bluzzard like in outcome.
It is.
this is what they were aiming for anyway wasn’t it - pretty sure most complaints come about this.
Blizzard’s policy on multi-boxing remains relatively unchanged. The only thing that has been effectively banned is the third party software most commonly used to facilitate it.
So if you can multi-box without using that software? You’re fine.
I imagine most multi-boxers relied on that software though, or a variation of it.
Just use a wireless keyboard and mouse linked to all your PCs. Functionally identical to using the now-forbidden software, except there’s no forbidden software for Warden to detect.
Realistic is probably a better word and clarification of “large number”. I’m not running 20 PCs in my room So If a 40boxxer wants to hardware box Good luck.
Yep.
And it will fail. Because the guys 20+ boxing are not boxing on one machine. They’re already multiboxing on lots of hardware.
They’re now just going to expand the hardware layer and switch to hardware inputs. Because what they’re doing doesn’t require a lot of interaction anyway it’s not a big deal.
Killing the software is a huge deal to the M+ multiboxing community, the guys who did rated PvP and the very casual 2-5 boxing community. Basically all the people who played on one machine with software emulating the KVM experience.
Here’s a 16 port KVM switch. No stock at amazon, but if you risk a 3rd party seller, there are some for $150 and up
“Cascade Up to 2 Levels - Control Up to 256 Computers From A Single Console”
256 boxxing
And all without using forbidden broadcasting software.
256 at once! I’ve gotta get one of those!!
Better call that electrician.
the good kvm’s are nice. Before we went virtualized a rack could have 30 servers at least to a kvm.
good ones you can program in names and numbers to double tap a key and see the clients connected and hop in them quicker. Vice going button 1, ,2,3…,11 ah here is the server
Even with a big switch it will still cut down the numbers a bit. If you look closely at a mbox setup it usually has 4 clients running on one pc. Using a switch will force the boxers to buy a lot of extra pc’s, given each PC can only run one client without the now forbidden software.
A lot of people are talking about KVMs and such, but remember that the reason why multi-boxing went mostly virtual in the first place is because it was easier to use, and wasn’t as prohibitive, cost wise. Now for the most part, folks will be going back to the physical, which means multiple rig setups. That’s going to be prohibitive, especially with the system requirements that WoW has now, which continue to grow as Blizzard expands what the engine is capable of.
I think only the most hardcore of multiboxers are going to return to the days of needing physical hardware.
Addons also seem to be disabled for me
The can still use 1 box.
They disallowed broadcast feature. For the good boys and girls who were never evil boxers…broadcast of commands is only 1 feature of apps like isboxer and other MB software out there.
It will transmit the command now banned on a specific port. this is what blizzard would pick up.
Do not use broadcast but other features…you can still use the application.
When CCP banned isboxer and others broadcast features for use in eve you could still use them. Some have way more features like provide data/view sharing. While on client 2…you could keep tabs on client 1. This was allowed.
Using client 2 to command client 1 via broadcast…was not allowed.
You can get a decent machine for under a $1000, and KVM switches can be gotten for about $20. You can even go cheaper with a wireless keyboard controlling multiple machines.
