At the rate they cancel things we would have to wait and see if there was enough of a viewing base to keep it going if, and that’s a big if they ever do especially Netflix.
I’d be all for it . My main concern is how much they would butcher it.
To be realistic about it, the only reason The Sandman was so good was because the creator Neil Gaiman was in charge of the whole thing.
The thing is that League is a game with loosely defined lore but an overall thematic setting, so one can use bits of pieces to build something coherent and good
I don’t think one can do that with WoW in the same style that a show like Arcane or shows that are popular on Netflix could do it, but maybe they could take one of the many Warcraft books and make a series or movie out of that
At the end of the day, they are still wrong because the World of Warcraft is too expansive to make a series out of it so grounding it in something more concrete but that one could still play around with loosely could be incredible
Imagine the Warcraft comics made into a Netflix series, that sort of a thing
I think the best ones would be arthas story arch before his “corruption”. Or the Well of Eternity with Azshara, Illidan-Tyrande and Malfurion. These two stories esp with Malfurion sounding the horn is quintessential warcraft.
As good as Arcane was, it was a large undertaking. From concept to launch it took about 6 years to make. Granted there were some slowdowns and pauses in that time. Lets say that it could have been done in 4 years for arguments sake.
Is Activision Blizzard going to go to the lengths that Riot did? Riot acquired an animation studio to task them with the show. Then funded the production of that show for the entire time. Thankfully the show was wildly successful. It opened the door for other projects and a season two of Arcane.
But is Activision Blizzard going to go to those lengths? Unfortunately I dont think so. They would not only need to hire a studio, but hire screenwriters and all of the pre-production first. With an animated show, you just can do a re-write halfway into production. So it will take time, maybe even a couple years to first write the show and get the script to a point where its ready to turn over to the studio to make.
Could they do it? Sure. But I cant imagine the board looking at a presentation on making an animated show, which would take 4 years and 80-100million to make, using an IP (Warcraft) which is in a bit of a lul as far as popularity goes. Not to mention when they made a Warcraft Movie, it tanked domestically and only did well in the overseas market.
What I would like to see, is some stand alone games in the Warcraft World. I hate to use the comparison, but like Baldur’s Gate 3. Or Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew. Or Battle Chasers Nightwar, or Ruined King. Games using the IP of Warcraft that can go multi platform. If they want to grow WoW they need to expand the Warcraft Universe. Get people interested in the universe again. Then they will have the time and funding to make some interesting stuff.
League lore is much more vague so they can sort of do whatever they want. That’d be a bit trickier with WoW considering it has 2 decades of storyline.
Well, if we look at the Warcraft movie, they chose the WC1-2 timeline, and nobody went to see it. A Warcraft show would probably just be a retelling of WC3, because everything post-WC3 is WoW, and that story’s all over the place.
WoW isn’t at peak popularity anymore like it was back in the 2000s so it’s also a risky venture.
Netflix is bad at Live Action Shows and Animated 3D Shows but seems to be good at Animated Cartoon Shows like Arcane and Puppet Shows like The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance…
Netflix should take the hint and focus on such Shows.
A WoW Animated Show(as opposed to a WarCraft Animated Show) should milk 3 Zones for each Season(20 Episodes each Season).
The Seasons should be:
Night Elves: Val’sharah, Azsuna and Suramar
Blood Elves: Bloodmyst Isle, Eversong Woods and Ghostlands
Pandaria: Jade Forest, Dread Wastes and Wandering Isle
Horror: Drustvar, Duskwood and Silverpine Forest(with Tirisfal Glades’ Sky)
Dragons: Ohn’ahran Plains(mostly the Emerald Gardens), Thaldraszus and Zaralek Caverns
Ocean: Shimmering Flats, Abyssal Depths and Nazjatar
Troll Empire: Zuldazar, Zul’Drak and Vol’dun.
Sailors: Tiragarde Sound, Cape of Stranglethorn and Stormsong Valley
