We do not need to make combat easier

In a recent interview talking about upcoming addon changes, Activision said they’re going to make changes to both combat and encounters to make them easier so people don’t feel like they need addons.

We DO NOT need to do this. Combat is braindead as is, and I don’t use any addons to help with combat.

Don’t cater to people who are too lazy to lift a finger. We’re already getting the absurd one button mode, why do we need to do more?

No they did not say they were going to make it easier. They said they need to design the content, still with a challenge, but where no one feels pressured to use outside addons, because the in game functionality will do its job correctly.

Please watch and pay close attention to the webcast.

Whether or not they can actually pull this off… I doubt it. But that is their design philosophy going forward.

Please, do not pretend like they’re saying something else. They will be gutting combat once again, just like the “great pruning” garbage from a decade ago that ruined the game. Because why should a video game actually play like one? This is just a chat engine, I forgot, my bad!

Don’t make a fuss over something that might never happen.

Oh this I totally expect to happen. Every time a class “rework” happens, it’s just making it easier and dumber. They LOVE making the game easier. It’s Ion’s dream for some reason.

Don’t waste your time here, this is the person who posts frequently about how everything is easy and all the classes are braindead just so we know how great they are.

Meanwhile also says things like Outlaw just presses sinister strike and dispatch 95% of the time. I’m sure classes are in fact very easy if you just ignore how they work.

What class, right now, is SO HARD that you can’t play it without addons? Oh, right, none. But they’re pretending it’s a common issue.

Wow hasn’t been a difficult game since WotLK. Nobody struggles on end game content. The addition of so many addons is the issue with the game. Ever since decursive was a thing in vanilla have mods taken the difficulty out of playing. Them removing mods is exactly what you want but for some reason you’re only seeing parts of the message.
"The goal is to make class mechanics more approachable and easier to understand without addons.” This isn’t saying they’re making the game easier. It’s them saying that the game won’t need the addons and they’ll be designing around that focus.

I honestly thought the argument was about designing the game so combat addons don’t have to “read the cues” so much that playing without them becomes a hindrance to players, at the highest levels of challenge.

One button mode is for disabled people. It’s a 20 year old game, the playerbase is getting old.

As for the difficulty of combat , there has objectively been complexity bloat in recent years where every fight has like 7 or 8 mechanics. I’m good at WoW, I can do fights with 10 mechanics, but I don’t enjoy it when every fight is that complex. I wish they would leave complex fights for last bosses in dungeons or last few bosses in a raid.

My favorite fight in WoW is Altarius in Vortex Pinnacle, a simple fight with a few clear but fun mechanics. If early bosses in raids and dungeon were more like that then WoW as a whole would be more fun.

Well, that sucks.

That is a fine motivation for other types of games. I don’t feel like this is a good idea for World of Warcraft.

It means they’ll rework classes to be “easier to manage without addons” by making them legit braindead. It’s what they always do. It’s why I quit 11 years ago.

No, there hasn’t. Game has been getting easier and easier since 2013. Classes are mindless now, content is all about movement instead of real mechanics, there is no challenge anymore.

They’re trying ANYTHING to get more players after they destroyed the game in WoD and kept bleeding subs. Too bad none of the people in charge of it know what they’re doing or care at all.

The difficulty of content has more variables than the number of mechanics for sure, but the number of mechanics has been steadily increasing every expansion, just look at the dungeon journal for any random dungeon compared to any random older dungeon.

They can reduce the number of mechanics while increasing the difficulty of those individual mechanics resulting in a harder but more enjoyable and accessible fight.

I don’t want to memorize 7 mechanics for every dungeon boss and every raid boss every tier. That decreases the fun much more than it increases difficulty.
