Was doing some BGs in the worst battleground, Warsong Gulch, and we’d managed to cap the flag pretty early and managed to hold off the Alliance for nearly ten mins before they finally capped ours. But here is the problem, we lost despite both sides being 1 for 1 and us capping first.
Why did we lose? We should have won. We capped first. That’s how it should be and if not, that’s just brain dead re-re rules.
That would be like a marathon runner saying that they were ahead in the beginning so they should win the whole race. Um, no. Whoever finishes last wins. I hope you’re trolling.
It makes sense why it works that way. If it was first cap then it would encourage less than fun strategies. Everyone would just turtle once they got the first cap, as it is now you want at least 2 caps before just playing D becomes the best option.
Do you want WSG and TP games where the last 80% of the game is just a turtle?
If I cap first and you cap last: I should get given the victory for capping before you did. You should not be given the victory because you capped after I did.
Name any other game that has this same rule, where if you cap first and your enemy caps last, you lose despite both teams have the same score of 1 to 1.
It’s to stop teams from turtling up after one cap. The other team keeps playing hard because they still have a shot at victory if they can cap too. They don’t have to cap twice to win.
Should stop thinking about it in terms of a race. The relevant bit is the second team capped closest when the game ends. The end of the game is the “goal point” so-to-speak, not the start.
As other’s have said tho, the main reasons it works this way is to make it so turtling right away isn’t just the hands-down best strat. And to give it a sense of competition, people keep trying to get that tying cap precisely because of this rule, if you had to get two caps to counter one cap by the enemy most folks would just give up as soon as the enemy got the first flag. That would make for very sh*tty games.
That team fought hard to cap the flag and should never be punished for turtling in a BG that centers itself around being defensive and offensive.
That is the stupidest rule ever written in human history and whoever invented it should be ashamed of themselves. No other game, serious game, in history has that same rule. Overwatch, no. Team Fortress 2, no. Rocket League? No, it’ll instead go into overtime because it wasn’t written by someone with an extra chromosome.
