I’m not responding out of the idea that I’m bringing anything unique to the conversation; on the contrary, I’ve seen a LOT of comments to this effect, but I’m hoping that the more of us that can say so eloquently and without pointing fingers and yelling, the greater the chance that we’re listened to.
Someone over on Wowhead raised the very simple point that you weren’t technically LOSING the water walking ability, because if you wanted to keep the strider, you could apply the shoes right back to it and call it a day. That’s great if you’ve only got the one main character that you really care about.
But what about alts. I have a LOT of them.
I did Netherwing rep three times over back in the day (2 in BC, one in WotLK) so I could ride my drakes on whatever character I wanted. I have a LOT more than three now, and I was both relieved and infuriated when mounts became accountwide. But that’s not what’s important to this story, what is important is the fact that I did that rep grind multiple times because I knew my other characters couldn’t use those mounts without it. In the case of the Anglers, I only did it ONCE because there was no reason to do it … nineteen times so all of my toons could benefit. If I’d had to do it 19 times over, I’d’ve about lost my mind.
It would be different if mounts were still character specific, but this feels like a step backwards. It’d also be different if I were forced to use my strider to water walk if I didn’t wanna cough up for the new items, but to lose water walking entirely because I don’t want to re-purchase something I already earned feels really bad.
I made it out the other side pretty much okay. Honestly though… I’m going to miss this game, the connections I’ve made, and the characters I’ve developed… but I’ll always have their memories.
I’m just here to tell you folks I’m done. Blizzard has been out to nerf the strider without a care or concern for the players, like many other things, and they’re going so headstrong about it there’s no amount of feedback that will help. It’s a foolish endeavor to get them to change their mind. They may look back at some point in time and realize that something happened along the way that caused the players to leave. Homogenization of classes, removal of QoL improvements, removal of skills and abilities, removal of benefits from heirlooms, removal of portals, removal of striders, removal of future things… these will be the downfall.
So long and happy trails to the players.
To Blizzard - it was once a lot of fun experiencing this game. It’s not fun anymore. I pretty much hate you guys for ruining it.
What would be a fair price? Zero. That’s what it’s cost for my alts to use it for the last 6 years without them having the rep.
How often was I using the water strider? Basically every patch where flying was disabled and I was not on my DK. So 90%+ of 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, 7.1, 8.0, and 8.1. Timeless Isle, Shadowmoon Valley, Talador, Aszuna, Drustvar, Tiragarde Sound, and Nazmir are all bleepin’ obnoxious to run around in without water walking.
Happy to correct it for you as per your request :). If I can be of any further assistance please don’t hesitate to ask. Because of this announcement I’m either here or on Wowhead more than in game this week :(.
This is incorrect. Taliesin reported that it will function account wide.
Meaning you put it on your favourite flyer say the Lightforged Warframe on your main, and that glyph then stays on that mount regardless of which alt you’re on. You only pay again, if you want to change that specific mount to another functionality.
How is this even a question from an official Blizzard representative???
NO PRICE is fair. We’ve ALREADY EARNED the thing and can use it across our account for free. That’s why we earned it in the first place. Just like why people farmed all of the lootable mounts like Ashes of Al’ar - it was so their entire account could access.
In the most recent video, Taliesin says, specifically, that “the slot, not the equipment in it, is account wide.”
In other words, once your level 100 character unlocks it, all characters level 20 or higher will have the slot. The item you put in the slot, though, is at the character level, not the account level and not at the mount level.
Your main doesn’t put it on their lightforged warframe. Your main gets one item slot and that applies the item to all of that character’s mounts (except sky golem). And if you want it on your other characters, each character has to use the item to get that effect on all of his or her mounts. Each character can benefit from only one effect.

This is still GRIEFING move by some one who has no idea what he’s talking about. If you where soooooo into making it better for the player, you would leave the water strider as is and implament your new system. Maybe I like the water stryder, who cares if you are bored with it fix that don’t grief my playing exsperience. To many time you change things in game based on your outlandish opinions and not the player base. Stop griefing start doing the right thing.
$10 says they’ll be removing daze protection from tanks too.
Afterall, if people can’t have water walking + second equipment buff just because they grinded a rep, what makes you think they’ll let tanks have daze protection + second equipment buff just because they leveled a tank?
Yes, that’s exactly what I said. The effect is at the character level, not the account level. The person I was replying to seemed to think the effect was at the mount level and was account wide, so you can put the item on one mount and all characters would have that effect on that mount. That’s not the way it’ll work based on Blue and T&E info available to date.
Also, T&E played 8.2 so while they’re not official employees, they’re the go to source for non-Blue info about how this system will work, at least until PTR is open.
