Water Strider Discussion

Ok so you have nothing to back up your statement besides your idea. Don’t you think it would be better to stop misinforming people?

I don’t see them removing those consumables at all, they have say nothing about it.

Because pretending that the water strider is losing anything ignores the fact that the water strider now has more options than before.

Pre-8.2: Water strider can walk on water

Post-8.2: Water strider can walk on water or ignore daze

It is, in the same way that the Sky Golem is not. You’re ignoring the fact that you can still use the new equipment on other mounts and I see you doing it.

Leaving the Strider as-is won’t hurt you or prevent that at all.

Yep I see it now, we all put water shoes on and go buy cheap bardings and gliders to completely make the mount equipment obsolete the second it goes live. Sounds about right.

So just say that you want to be able to equip 2 different mount equips. You’ve currently got one (water strider passive), and you’re now mad that you’ll have the option to pick something different. You just want a second one for free. Come out and say it.

They can make it so that the strider isn’t able to use any mount equips. Most people would be fine if they did just that. You’re just repeating what YOU would want in the same circumstances.

Everyone who wants the Strider left alone has NO PROBLEM with not letting it equip the new equipment.

I’m tired of these straw men. You’re acting like I’m arguing for Striders to be able to walk on water AND use the new equipment.

No.

No equipment for the Strider, just like the Sky Golem.

We clear now?

This isn’t accurate. Currently in game (Pre 8.2) you can use a Water Walking potion with ANY mount. You can also use a Barding or Stirrup with the Water Strider or use a Barding with the Sky Golem.

You can also apply different effects to different mounts at the same time.

I’m fairly certain you can also combine the Potion with one of the other two consumables on any other mount.

Post 8.2 you can only have 1 effect on at any time, which is applied to all your mounts.

Yes, because you can now. That is functionality that will be removed because there is no way that Blizzard would create a single option system and leave the other consumables in place to get dual effects. If not, there is no reason to remove water walking from the strider.

The only bonus of the new system is extending effects back to level 20 and up to 60 after which you can fly.

If you put the free Water Walking equipment you’ll get in 8.2 on the Strider doesn’t that wind up being the same thing?

Put it on once and never change it. Bang. You have the old Strider still.

Not in the slightest. If you actually READ this thread, you will notice a huge number of people saying “do the same thing being done with the golem, which is leave it with it’s water walking ability and do NOT give it an equipment slot”. Which is honestly the best answer to this entire problem except Blizzard doesn’t want to go that route because their actual intent is to make it ridiculously expensive and/or annoying to water walk and give themselves an easy way to remove the ability completely later anyhow when they remove mount equips. (Which I have absolutely no doubt at all is what will happen.)

No it isn’t. If I have to buy and equip for 30 alts, it most certainly isn’t.

You’re missing the point I was making. If the water strider isn’t a part of the system then the cost of swapping between anti-daze and water-walking is a 1.5 second resourceless cast. Which means you just have 2 mount equips.

Did they say that they’re removing the current barding/stirrups? I was under the impression that given water-walking potions exist alongside the permanent effect we’d see the new items exist alongside the current ones.

No, because right now i can use the water strider to walk on water, and then use any other ground mount and not be dazed and dismounted. With this new system it one or the other. So it’s a big nerf.

It isn’t for the cost reason mentioned in the other reply to your post… AND it isn’t the same since you won’t be able to use anything else. For example: As of NOW, I can put barding on if I want to herb around a bit (I hate the golem’s animation) and when I’m done herbing, I still have a mount that water walks, WITHOUT PAYING TO CHANGE IT BACK. And without paying EVERY time I want to use a barding for a little bit.

It’s character specific. You’ll get one free one and have a reduced price for each and every one of your alts.

If you have the strider, you’ve already purchased account level Water Walking once, albeit with a higher character level limit.

They want you to have a choice of ONE feature for your mounts. If you choose water walking, all other options will be unavailable. You’re asking for 2 mount options at the same time when you want the potions, bardings, or gliders in addition to the one you choose for your mounts. It’s not that hard to see that those potions/bardings/gliders will be removed so you can’t have multiple features.

Seems clear to me. I’m sure it does to you… hopefully.

LOL do you actually have time to play 30 Alts that all need Water Walking? I get the annoyance but this sounds like first world problems to me.

I’m aware. It doesn’t seem like much of an issue to me.

We’re going to be flying when this is released anyway and I always felt that Blizz would limit the Strider (and Golem) to MoP eventually so this feels like a better option.

You don’t think they’re leaving the barding in as it is, do you? I would put big money on those going away. Or rather, those will be converted into the new equipment, since Blizzard has already said the items will be player crafted and of the options of (A) need to come up with a completely new crafted item, or (B) simply change an existing crafted item, Blizzard will without doubt take the path of least effort, which is (B). The barding won’t be a thing anymore.

I mean, leaving the barding alone has a few advantages:

(1) It gives professions a source of income after everyone has picked their permanent equip.

(2) It mirrors how water-walking potions exist alongside the water strider.

It’s possible that they remove them timed items, but I think that would be a huge mistake.

They have a mount feature that replicates the barding. Why would they leave barding in? You can purchase the mount item, equip it and boom… you have barding on all your mounts. Simple.
