Water Strider Discussion

Seems like another desperate attempt by the clowns running this circus to ween people off wanting to use flying mounts also.

So am I reading that right? If I buy that piece of equipment on a toon (or for a toon, as its account bound) then EVERY mount will be able to walk on water?

This is very cool.

They’re adding equipment to make it so you can water walk on other mounts. Ok, so this is a good change. Now you won’t be stuck using the same mount on every character. Now I’m ok, though now the water strider is a dead mount.

At least they say they are providing something to counter the pain a bit:

T&E announced that if you have a Water Strider on 8.2’s launch, you will get a free [Inflatable Mount Shoots] item which lets all your mounts walk on water. In addition, if you head to the vendor where you bought a Water Strider, **you’ll be able to buy more of this item for a greatly reduced price as an advantage for those who already have the Water Strider.**

It’s not ideal and I’m not happy at them removing the ability that so many of us worked so hard to achieve, but at least it isnt just a blanket removal as they intended back in Legion.

My guess is we wouldn’t get the system at all if leaving the strider intact was an option. The entire mount system overhaul was done specifically to address the strider being a no brainer. But if the angle you’re arguing is that by leaving the strider intact and exempt from the new mount system we could use that when we want water walking and any other mount when we don’t, that’s exactly why I think it was included. But that is a point I didn’t initially consider. I’m thinking of it in the sense of what we had versus what we will have. You’re thinking of it in the sense of what we had versus what we would gain if they left the strider out of it which gives us the best of both worlds. That’s very clearly not the intent here.

Blizz you really need to give the Sky Golem the same treatment. Then add herbing, mining, and skinning while mounted items!

So what I’m gathering is, to use the water walking I already have access to I have to use up the equipment slot for water walking and gain nothing. Classes with innate water walking gain new perks for their mounts.

Why can’t the water strider be left as is and then have the same equipment options. If you don’t want the water strider you can use the equipment for same affect.

But it should be the intent, because it’s such a dominant ability that it makes the entire system meaningless. If you leave the strider with its ability but excluded from the equipment system, then people who want waterwalking with other mounts can have it, and people who don’t mind using the strider can just stick with that and have some other bonus on their other mounts. Now, depending on where prices settle for these items I could be completely wrong about people just sitting on waterwalking. Maybe they’ll be dirt cheap and it won’t hurt anything to carry a couple extra to swap around depending on what you need. Flying is gonna have a big impact on what happens. But come next expansion I think people are gonna lament not being able to have a dedicated waterwalking mount and having an equipment bonus for all the rest.

Wonder how this affects vial of Sands since the passenger already gets a parachute on that. Guess it’ll have to be removed! LOL!

You’re wrong. Right now - you can use a player made item that will give you immunity to stun while riding a mount (including the water walking mounts). After their change - you can have water walking OR you can have stun/daze immunity equipped on the mount - not both. That’s what people are not grasping. You don’t get to use both after the change; you use 1 or the other.

It’s a nerf and people most definitely are NOT overreacting. We’re tired of blizzard ramming their illusions of “improvements” down our throats, when they’re most definitely NOT improvements. There’s just so many more issues in the game that could be fixed/improved on; this is not one of them. Not to mention the fact that a lot of us feel slighted over it - there was a hell of a lot of work involved earning the mounts. And they’re just going to take away what made them unique and that’s it? Not to mention - it’s trickling out that the flying golem will keep it’s bonus that allows players to pick herbs without dismounting while using it - slap in the face if I ever saw one!

Please don’t change the existing functionality of the Water Strider. By all means, make it so that additional equipment doesn’t work on the Water Strider, but it should retain its ability just like the Sky Golem has its herbing ability. If people want to water walk on other mounts that’s great, but for immersion some of us prefer to use realistic mounts for this. That doesn’t mean I want to be prevented from using the new mount equipment when I’m using one of my other mounts though! This could be solved by making the equipment per-mount (account wide), so we could specify the functionality we wanted for a particular mount. Or just make it so the Water Strider always had water walking, and your other mounts had whatever else you chose. It just seems awful to take away something that ought to work.

Passengers get parachutes on all mounts no matter what. Ground and flying.

activision breaks things to make other things work. this design philosophy needs to stop.

I have 2 water striders blue and red on each main and alts. how many water walking boots am I getting for free?

ran out of likes :frowning: going to hate spending gold on all my toons to make my water striders to work again.

They did say the price will be greatly reduced for us. Let’s wait until PTR to see the price.

Bite your tongue!!!

(Yes, I am aware you were using it an an example, but don’t give them any ideas!)

How about two free.
During WoD, Nat Pagle became a really good friend of mine, and as a result of that friendship I acquired a second Water Strider. I shall need one for both it and the one from the Anglers. You don’t wanna piss Pat off by leaving him out.

My questions regarding the buyable water walking ability is:

1 - will it cost a lot?
2 - will the effect be removed if you are hit?
3 - will you need to buy one for every character to be able to use it?

If so it is a great deal less effective than the Water Strider. Any character across your account over 20 can currently use it as mounts are account wide. So if you have 50 characters, all 50 characters can use it with no cost involved. But if you have to buy this item for every single character you have, that is going to end up costing a whole bunch of gold. And if you can only afford to put it on one mount you will be back to using a single mount for water walking on a character.

Citation please.

This is a point I inquired about myself, however the problem is we don’t actually know that. Side note, it doesn’t make the player stun immune, it makes them daze immune. And we have no concrete information on what happens to those existing items after the change. It also comes with flying, which means that it’s completely irrelevant this expansion regardless of whether those items get removed or changed into mount equipment.

SLAP IN THE FACE! Lol, I love the melodrama. Thumbs up. Highly entertaining. Laughed a lot. Can’t wait to see what hyperbole comes next.

Announced in the livestream, mounts will have a single equipment slot that allows you to equip an item that gives your mounts a bonus effect.

It does also say that they are “made by professions” so I have been assuming they replace the items we currently have. However, thats an assumption as we don’t really know for sure.
