I have a few concerns with the new mount system.
I earned the water strider in MOP and now I have to pay for it when I want to use different abilities on other mounts (yes, I know the first one is free, but the rest of the time I play wow they will not be.). I know a lot of people have voiced this concern, so nothing new here.
I can’t help but feel that they are going to make the new mount system a part of future pathfinder achievements. They can remove any perks until the expansion is mostly over this way.
Now if they combine the flight ability of mounts with this, it will become a huge gold drain if you can only have one slot for every mount you own.
Because, unlike wow, the population is still growing in spite of people leaving.
Yeah, because South America’s entire population is heading there right?
So apparently there are new Water Strider skins on WoWhead or somewhere. Insult to injury much? LOL.
Long thread, don’t expect folks to read through it, but I’m way past that delusional statement made days ago.

Birthrate, lgbtq+ refugees fleeing from red States, job seekers, people seeking better climate… The harder it is for daily commuters to cross the border here in San Diego, the more likely they’ll just stay on this side of it. It all adds up. “The caravan” was pretty small compared to everything else. Anyway, my apologies for drifting off topic, comparing bleeding subs to RL issues… I’ll try to drop this tangent now.

… New? I thought wowhead said they were added back in mop…

Data mined files, last seen in 5.3, now showing up in PTR 8.2.
And your non-flying Kua’fon mount is changing as well.
“Once a little hatchling, raised into a mighty pterrordax by a loving handler. He finally learned to fly.”
All they want to do is make everything take longer. Delay flying as long as possible. Increase mob density and dazing/dismount rates on the ground. Remove water walking or have it come at the expense of speed in another way (other equipment choices). Everything about BfA is designed to be slow and boring.

Hopefully they have more story quest for that upgrade, I dislike when they just ‘give’ us stuff without context.
head over to mmo-champion to see the skinny with less overhead than what wowhead wants to throw your way. Your pterrordax learns to fly via a quest/questline in Zuldazar.

Of course they will.
NOTHING they change is for OUR benefit.
There is always some underlying agenda in everything they do.
Absolutely disgusting that we cant trust this company to make the game for US anymore, but for their stinking investors instead.

I am glad he will learn to fly, but I agree, they need to add story to this. It wouldn’t make sense that he could all of a sudden learn to fly when we have been walking every where we went. When and how did he learn to fly in zones where we can’t fly?
Same goes with the stupid thing they are doing to the water-strider. How did they end up in an experiment? Why were fishermen experimenting anyway? And why do all the wild water-striders still walk on water? It is not like the anglers got a hold of my strider to conduct these experiments on him, so whatever they did would have to affect all water-striders across the world.
they sure maximize the waiting
Worse, is their communication and their intent is worsening over time.
Bump for Ugly Bug LOVE.
I do have to admit I thought the bug was ugly.
But
The first time I hit the spacebar and saw that guy stand up high and look around I was hooked!
Blizzard isn’t shaking in it’s boots over any type of legalities they might fear over flight, guilds, or grumbly little water bugs they’re taking away from us, trust me. I am giggling at that kind of talk and I’m certain they are too.
You know something? So were the publishers of Second Life, Star Wars: Battlefront II, et al., except those companies WERE impacted by our legal system. Until its tried and the company wins the day they have not reduced the risk of lawsuits on that specific subject matter.
This is why I keep harping on the fact that it is ETHICALLY wrong. If something is ETHICALLY wrong sooner or later someone will attempt to challenge the company to find out if it is LEGALLY wrong. If it turns out they are LEGALLY wrong as well then that puts the company in a tough spot if they wish to continue the ETHICALLY wrong behavior. This is also why Punitive damages are awarded. To provide a disincentive to the company and other companies of continuing or joining the ETHICALLY wrong behavior. Lets face it in a class action of lets say 10,000 participants and the actual damages are judged to be $1.00 per participant the punitive damages may extend upwards of several hundred thousand dollars per per participant. If the punitive damages are large enough it hurts the company financially.
This is something we don’t necessarily want to see. If they end up paying it out its money that cannot be spent on development. Indeed if the amount is large enough it may be enough to cause the executives to come to the conclusion that continuation of the game involves too much risk and they will shut the game down for good. No one here wishes that I am sure.
Therefore it behooves the company in question to re-examine the intended choice and determine if their incorrect ethical path is going to end up being a costly LEGAL path and if the answer is close enough to yes as to become a reportable risk, to modify their ethical path before it becomes impossible to avoid the legal consequences.
At the end of the day the very last place any company or individual should want to end up is facing a judge and jury as once you are there, it gets expensive and the outcome is not guaranteed at all.

“No no, mount equipment is fine. Everything is fine. I’m good. It’s all good. Say, did you want my water striders? Here, take’m. I don’t expect I’ll be needing them anymore soon. Or flying mounts. Or ground mounts.” — signed my totally not suicidal alts, they’re fine, don’t worry. Nothing matters. In 100 years we’ll look back on this and laugh. Or maybe not. /wrists
Seriously though, if the new zones inflict as much travel fatigue as the current ones, and flying doesn’t radically improve ‘great seal <-> docks’ tedium… I’m pulling the plug after years&years here, and defecting to a competitor.

Yep. I have to concur.
At this point it’s not a simple matter of them breaking my beloved water strider.
It’s a clear lack of truthful communication with the players. It’s blizzard taking the attitude of “you’ll live with this and like it”. Then, while the players continue to lament, they clam-up like stones and wait for the calm, while planning their next move.
That’s why I truly laugh at this Ion character being a former member of Elitist Jerks and a former lawyer. You can’t make this up if you were Jes Smollett.
I’m not gonna live with this and like it. I’ll play long enough to get flying, maybe raid as long as my guild, who’s had to merge with another guild just to get a good raid together, and after that, cancel my subscription.
The next expansion isn’t far off, where flying will once again be a thing of the past, and my little ugly bug will be more of a frustration than a small convenience, and all I’ll have to look forward to is 4 months of new content that will quickly get old.
