Water Strider Discussion

You do realize that is a leading question?

It wasn’t asked to get an idea of the frequency of water strider mount usage, or the alternative of hardly ever using. They can crunch that data and get those figures themselves.

It was asked to get you to confirm the evidence they already have to support their stance that it is overpowered, because it is used so frequently. Mainly to bypass content, thus reducing the ticks of your time played clock.

The greatest issue, if this goes live, isn’t the inconvenience of BFA and water walking with the water strider. It’s the future expansions wherein Blizzard, like flight, creates an issue they then remove for “immersion” followed by swimming until time gating the ability until later in the expansion. Every ability for a mount, from here on out, will have to be purchased to upgrade for said expansion at a “future point” in the game that in Blizzard speak means they’ll not give a solid date and drag it out.

It is the main reason I have moved on from the game. I try and come back but every time it always come to realize how far out of touch the game has become since Ion has taken over.

And don’t forget, that along with this new equipment, which is hugely opposed, all this could be avoided if they’d simply use their brains and add different mounts.
Don’t like the strider? develop others with ww abilities. You created a damn SHIP, and didn’t let it float on the water for pete’s sake. How ridiculously stupid was that? Don’t want to be knocked off? How about a kodo, that maniacally giggles when it gets hit like “are you kidding me”? I’m being silly, but none of this equipment garbage even has to hit live, if they actually wanted to give us this “choice”.
But between all the threads, the thousands of comments from the players that CLEARLY don’t like this craptastic idea, the history of blizzard’s total disregard of common sense (have they fixed guild preferences yet???) and the added history of their disregard for the player’s feedback…this company and the morons in charge are just not going to see the consequences of all these stupid decisions until this game is circling further down the drain.
The more I think about it, the more I lean toward saying goodbye to moonstriken…a toon that’s been like a virtual family member for over 14 years now.

If the bottom line is actually to cater toward the cyclical players, esports, and/or forcing us to spend slightly more time logged-in, they’ve lost me.

Blizzard’s new motto, although changing thier with total would probably be more fitting.

Or spend tons of gold swapping between the 3. They could easily make it so that the mats needed are very expensive and difficult to get, requiring a lot of time or gold. This would entice people to buy tokens.

hardly. The assumption is based on blizzards dismal track record

You remember all the employees that lost their jobs not long ago? I think they were the ones that didn’t fit into the ‘let’s troll the player base and see how long they last’ development model of the upper management since WoD. Each expansion they take away more and more and continue to wrap the lump of coal up in a shiny package with a cheap ribbon.

I lost all loyalty to Blizzard due to the number of bad changes, the total lack of any evidence that the players are being listened to, and the horrible experiences I had communicating with customer service regarding these changes.

It’s obvious the game is theirs to do with as they choose and they’re willing to chase every player away to prove it.

I don’t buy that as the excuse. If blizzard wanted to they could have either added more mounts with waterwalking (like a new one in each expansion) or added waterwalking to existing mounts like the boat mounts and anything that already hovers in the air.

They could have also added an engineering barding like I dunno water walking shoes like the existing bardings that was a crafted item.

It sounds like a description of catering to cyclical players who only subscribe to do the newest thing then leave but expect to have access to everything as if they were here/invested all the time.

Funny thing is you still have to have the rep to get it.

Oh! I totally suck at PvP. Opposing players should have all their skills nerfed when they fight me. They had the unfair advantage of working on their skills until they were good at what they do, so that totally has to go.

Oh! And I’m not so good at Raiding either. Better nerf all those mythic raiders so they don’t do more damage than me. They had the unfair advantage of doing the content, improving their skills, and earning better gear. We really can’t have that going on now. It might hurt my feelings.

Why is it that this is always where the argument goes to? No one’s arguing out of the avoidance of harm. Asking ‘how does this hurt you?’ is counter-productive and dumb. All you’re trying to do is frame the arguments for me, or ask me questions about a point I never made.

I never said that Water Strider being a slot-less mount would hurt me. I never claimed it would prevent me from using a mount with equipment.

I’m arguing that it’s silly to insist that a mount keeps innate water walking at the compromise of not having equipment when it only sounds like people want to avoid spending any gold on an consumable under the assumption that it’ll be expensive, locked under a rep vendor, or lead to time-gating somehow, three things I think are being blown out of proportion because of a prolapsing desire to preserve the value of the ‘work’ that went into acquiring the mount in the first place.

Hey, thanks for noticing!
I use a little tin foil along the edge of my hooves, makes me look like I’ve been freshly shoed.
And it helps counter galvanic corrosion between my tail rings and boots whilst in the water.

Expensive is subjective to the individual player.
You’re idea of expensive may be in the 1000s of gold range.
While for others it may be 100 gold.
So everyone’s got a different feel for what they’re willing to spend.
Personally, my max price per unit on water walking for rep holders is 1 gold per item, and only stated as such because the likely requirement that a consumable item needs a selling price. But that’s just me.
But even at 1G, I would now be paying for an ability that was inherent to the mount for free, and now also losing it’s ability to take fall damage.

The results?
I can have water walking, free for one character, but now it breaks on fall damage.
If I want additional characters to walk on water, it will cost X amount per character, where X isn’t buying the current version of strider water walking.

For those who already EARNED and PAID FOR the strider, why should we have to pay, PER TOON, for functionality that was ALREADY account-wide for 7 years?

Treat the strider like the sky golem. Leave it as it currently is, but make it unable to use equipment.

Equipment still opens the choice to use any other mount for water-walking, you are NOT locked to only using the strider.

Exactly. Seems to be the consensus in most of these threads, except for the blizz, or devs can do no wrong crowd. If they plan on going through with this stupid change, then at least give folks a onetime pay option on the equipment, so it is account bound. Put it in the heirloom tab, or toybox tab. Instead of the character that you have the rep done with constantly having to break off from what they are currently doing just to have to go back to pandaland to keep buying the equipment. Would save bag space also.
