Because Ion doesn’t like the water strider.
I would be fine with this.
If this is actually true… he needs to go.
He isn’t POTUS who is hellbent on erasing his predecessor’s policies… he should be building on what has already been done!
This is dumb… with a capital DUMB
I withdraw my support for this change then. BoA water walking is important. That is WHY I grinded the rep in the first place.
I still hate seeing everyone on the bug mounts in Nazmir tho.
With all the aggressive mobs they are putting into water nowadays, half they time it doesn’t even do that, you ony have to get nibbled on by a fish and your swimming…
I kind of figured it was that way, that’s why I was questioning it towards the guy who said it was not a “nerf” which it undoubtedly is.

Exactly! Does it help get around these silly islands they keep creating for each xpac, sure… is it some power leveling tool that is being exploited by the players??? uh… NOOOOO
They’re crushing out anything and everything that might be considered compelling, powerful, special, valuable, useful, … Things we earned and showed of with pride, even if they are more common now.
Before, every expansion starts strong, with possiblity, with upgrades, with new desirable things to obtain… And use. And over two years, we peak, we hit the long flat plain of diminishing returns.
Having people use a single mount 100% of the time is annoying and dumb in a game where mount collection is a main feature of the game. Mounts are huge feature in the game and yet people only use the water strider which is a meme mount at this point and has been for a long time.
And nobody has any arguments that they even make to dispute that fact.
Yes - they’re taking a single thing away to give you more control over which mounts you get to use.
Continue crying over it.
do you feel that alts should have every single thing that the other characters have?
Before I basically said “Obviously not, I just want Blizzard to keep honoring the perks they made account-bound in the past.”
It’s off topic, but I want to add something. AZERITE POWER, dammit, should be account bound.
I’m an alt-o-holic, and feeling like I’m sacrificing my progress on my main by developing my non-raiding alts feels BAD.
Diablo3 has the paragon system, all your alts contribute to it, benefit from it. Azerite Power should similarly, which smaller ‘big payoffs’ for story progress balanced with bigger daily-grind payoffs so that running an army doesn’t provide a completely unfair progress advantage. Pure lump some azerite rewards for quests are boring anyway. Give us loot we can scrap or gold or more rep or … anything.

Funny thing is, the patch where this terrible equipment system drops is also where Ion is forced to release his deathgrip on flying. So you will see less bugs in Nazmir anyway.
Having people use a single mount 100% of the time
Please tell me you don’t use other mounts!! You can’t… no way on Azeroth…

Add more variety of water-striding capable mounts then if variety is the problem.
And secondly, I dunno what realm you’re on, but the ONLY time I see water striders in any number at all, is at the start of Tol Dagor.
The rest of the time, the vast majority are on something else. Myself included.
but keep trying.

Edit: Bornakk clarified that the free water walking equipment piece is only for characters that have the required rep. I just want to point out that the assumption I made about how many get a free water walking equipment piece is merely an assumption. It may be free for all characters that have the required rep currently? I don’t know why we haven’t gotten clarification on this yet.
This still applies: Based on what Kaivax said though, it is character-specific, and applies to all mounts on that character.
The point is one mount dominates the others
Does it though? Right now the only zone where I use it predominately is in Nazmir. That’s more of a product of zone design than anything else.
Also once flying comes … its going to be relegated to basically 0% of the time.
Someone mentioned M+ … since I guess there is a shortcut I’m unfamiliar with (don’t follow or care). That sounds like an independent problem. Disable it in instances (like you do in pvp) or don’t make the timer so tight it requires cheesing by water-walking. … or bring a DK … or add some on-use WW item to a profession.
Gimping a mount that took quite a while to acquire is honestly just asinine.
Selling us stuff we have
It’s bs
Can someone that’s fairly credible who is on the PTR post what they see in regard to the system currently? Specifically interested in the price from Anglers and how alts are treated.

So just release reskined mounts then? Yeah no thanks. I don’t think people want to farm reskined mounts unless they release a new mount which still defeats the purpose of why they’re doing it.
They would have to release 100 new mounts at least to give people good variety.
So releasing 100 reskined mounts vs giving you an item that can any mount water walking.
Weren’t people complaining about horses recently?
Like I said, nobody has arguments to dispute what I said. Keep trying, kid.
This whole cluster whatever over this water strider mount is a solution in search of a problem of Blizzard’s own making. The unattended consequences of creating creature features in the game that literally allows the gamer to exploit the game that Blizzard gave the gamer to exploit the game with. Many here point to the latest Portal Room with good measure here.
The problem is not the players themselves, it is Blizzard who chose not deal with the many problems and issues they literally created for themselves over these many years with not dealing with the actual problems they created initially, then try at some later point to try to remedy with the consequences of creating more problems than actually fixing or addressing the problem they initially created for themselves because they either did not have the tech necessary at the time to actually fix the problem, or Blizzard intentionally created the problem, then decided they truly screwed the pooch initially and are now getting of their lazy behinds in fixing longstanding problems of their own making.
You asked in one of the post how often does one actually use this Water Strider mount. I have used it daily across every single character that I play and I currently have some 23 characters in total and one of them grind out the Angler’s rep so they rest of the characters that I created over time could enjoy and benefit from a mount that I should not have to grind out rep for 23 or more times.
This notion that I can purchase something so another alt can use a mount designed specifically to walk on water in just a means of Blizzard further screwing the pooch. I should not have to purchase additional items for a mount that already works as intended, especially for an alt. These types of decisions Blizzard makes are based on this notion that every single person that plays this game only plays one or a handful of characters per expansion, which is an absolutely fallacy.
If it were not the endless creation of alts that I have played over these many years. I would have literally stopped playing this game long ago. I have at least one of each class with the intention of playing all of them because they provide variety of play styles that keep the game fresh for me. I get that some things in this game should be locked behind a rep grind for each and every character I create. Though items like the Water Strider mount is not something that I particularly enjoy grinding the rep for on one character, much less 23 or more characters. Mounts are different from everything else, like gear and recipes for professions.
If there must be some level of additional mechanic applied here or change need to be made, then leave the Strider as it is and not let it benefit from any other means from any other Mount Equipment feature. The Strider was created for one purpose and one purpose only, to walk on water. Now that feature is being subjected to the cutting block for no real reason other than to create another problem that was already created long ago when MoP was a current expansion.
Blizzard needs to live with some of the problems they largely created for themselves over the course of time. They receive endless amounts of feedback on a whole range of problems and issues and those largely for whatever reason get initially ignored only to come back and bite everyone, especially the players that largely complained in their back sides later on.
This Strider mount in just one of many problems that are of Blizzard’s own making. So now in order to correct their own screw up they need to nerf something that people have been using regularly, at least in my case since inception or since finishing in this case the rep grind necessary to acquire the mount.
I chose to only complain in this game when Blizzard chooses to screw the pooch and in this instance they are seeking a remedy for a problem they created for themselves. Forcing the player to purchase something else so an alt can have the pleasure of what it already experiences it pretty damn lame across the board here. Stop creating more problems while trying to fix the ones that were already created by the decisions of the staff and designers of this game.
Yes, Blizzard can and will make whatever changes they see fit to make. This change is not necessary and is a solution to a problem created nearly a decade ago. There is no upside here for a player that plays many many alts. I am tired of having to be punished for wanting to play the game in the way I have played it all these years. I have put up with all the forced features to force me into content that I really do not enjoy, but largely do it to progress a character through that content and never go back and do them again, like the Island Expeditions. If it were not for the requirement of needing to do five of them for the war campaign. I would have never stepped into the first one on my main character.
Now If I want to create these various items in the latest patch from professions. Some of those require me to go into dungeons that I really do not enjoy one bit. I have done them as a means of progression through the story where a quest requires me to do so. I no longer bite on the other things that want to pigeon hole me into content that I would rather not go into again.
I get this is an MMO, but a large part of this player base leaves a lot to be desired at this point in this games life cycle. A lot of these people have no ability to conduct themselves properly to say the least. Many act and conduct themselves like complete jerks. They are why I now play the game the way I chose to do these days. I rarely go outside the means of a guild these days and even some of them literally fall apart days and week from joining many of them. I usually just take whatever invites I get from random guild, only to see less than a handful of people constantly playing the game.
Blizzard over these many years have created more problems when seeking solutions to problems that only create even more problems for many that play this game. The way I play this game today is a direct result of what Blizzard itself has done to their own game. I have literally adapted to the end results of Blizzard’s own actions. I have overcome the many shortcomings of those actions that continue to create more problems, not less. I have been forced into improvising to adapt to those many problems that I have been forced into overcoming for many years.
Being an old salt has its many benefits. It allows to me the opportunity to see and witness the stupid that many companies chose to make with their own products. WoW’s many problems and issues are and have been made by a company and the people who design and make decisions based off of problems they created and made more issues and problems out of those many design and decision problems and issues over many years.
This Strider was not a problem until Blizzard made it a problem. So now their solution is to render a mount that has but one purpose to ride on top of water useless or force the player to purchase something else in order to use the mount or any mount of their choosing in the manner of a mount that was created to ride on top of water.
Whoever is making these types of decisions needs to be shown the door. The level of incompetence shown in decisions like this over the course of time, for a lack of a better word, is just Stupid!
Ummm, you can use water walking potions if you don’t want to use the bug. Literally no one is stopping you from doing that. Maybe they shouldn’t design maps where people feel compelled to use water walking. And maybe create more mounts that have the ability? Taking something away that I earned and making me pay for it to get it back is stupid.
A fair price would be 1 copper and account bound mount equipment I already got the rep there is no reason I should need to rebuy it.
