I don’t know why it would matter if an addon was around during vanilla or not. If that was the requirement for classic, then nobody would be allowed to create new addons at all.
I wouldn’t call it a super mod. I’d call it a bundle package. Like we had a mod that would create popup warnings. We had mod that would create auditory warning. We had a mod that would make a KoS list for us to check. Etc.
Eventually someone said hey, why do we need a mod for each of these things, and then coded spy to do all of them instead of having to install multiple mods to get all of the features.
We had mods doing the stuff spy does. Spy was simply the next evolutionary step to the stuff we had back in vanilla.
Ok, I understand what you are saying.
While I agree people seem to think it’s a rebuttal.
I’m not sure if it is or isn’t and I doubt you actually know either.
I do remember them breaking AVR in WoTLK and that was infinitely more complex as to what it’s doing than what spy is doing. If they could break that they could break spy. 100% guaranteed, any notion that they couldn’t is bogus.
I agree with this view the issue is stealth detection being universal. It wasnt as well known during vanilla and people are upset that their expectation of being unknown in the area is not a reality. I doubt the people opposed to the addon will get anything from the classic devs about banning it.
And I doubt you know half of what you’re speaking about yourself. If they break Spy they will break numerous other addons. They will also set a precedent for other addons to be removed like I asked about above.
So you’re the end all be all that played everyone’s accounts in Vanilla…right.
That’s a change I definitely wouldn’t support. It has always been in the combat log since Vanilla. Back then, before I knew about mods I used to roll with my combat log open on the right and watch it for those exact kind of things.
I think removing it would be an unfortunate departure from how Vanilla mechanics worked.
And it’s very possible that’s why they won’t.
That’s why I pitched removing stealth from combat log recognition because that seems like it’d be the least impactful to other addons. Feel free to enlighten me on what other addons look for stealth in combat logs. Otherwise the big impact would be players couldn’t personally stare at their combat log to warch for it.
I’m confident in my assertion of what I stated about Blizzard being able to break it. Spy isn’t an overly complex addon, it pings an alert when it detects stealth. Very basic compared to other addons like AVR that they broke without breaking other addons.
What I’d be less confident about is if Blizzard could just make addons stop reading the stealth feature of combat logs. Obviously not letting them read combat logs entirely wouldn’t be a viable solution.
toward the end of vanilla i believe and its what really killed wpvp not flying.
I sure wish Blizzard would make a blue post on this.
its more that that time in wows live was the wild west of of mods there was no standard place to go for mods which meant you had to trust lots of diffrent places and site with addons, hoping that you were not downloading something that was ultimately malicious. there was also the purist crowd (which thankfully we killed off) but mods back in van were in this weird spot.
just think about it their top streamers all of them use spy addon do you think they are going to ban it.
if advise just not to play a rogue on a pvp server.
Do you have a source for that? Its my understanding that Esfand and Taliesin do not like it.
It’s in that same box as multiboxing. People know that it undermines the game and undermines PvP in general, but if it’s not technically wrong you’ll have everyone defending it. People will defend spy moreso than multiboxing because just about everyone is using it as a crutch to stay safe on PvP servers.
Spy literally grants a circumference that allows you to find someone quickly.
A person exists, it populates the list that there is an opposing faction nearby.
Run around on your mount and spam click it. Doesn’t target? You are going the wrong way. Targeting? You are getting closer. Watch your ranged attack until it lights up and spam away, bam! You got them!
Stealth? Stealth is nearby. Run around on your mount until your character ‘detects’ them, making their character visible somewhere on your screen. Can’t see them on your own? Spam the name on the list until they are targeted. Tada! There they are.
“But you can make /target name.”
Sure, you can. If they have a normal name, that isn’t a special alt+ character. But you also have to open the macro menu, create the macro, and type out their name.
This takes 1-2 minutes depending on how fluent you are with the game/interface/keyboard.
Spy does all the work for you so you don’t have to. You don’t have to pay attention because it will pop up with a little noise, a notification with their name and class, and puts a targeting button on your screen.
Don’t have to worry about watching behind you, those pesky hills, the room next to you. Just download Spy.
A beautiful addition to Classic.
but yet esfan uses it or groups with people that use it so he can feel better about him self.
I loved HHTD.
this again?
