WARNING: Massive Wave of False RMT Bans going out in RBGs

ethics and morals of it? this is about spam reporting to give unjust bans, these reports are even at 1200 mmr, people que into another 1200 team than see someone at 1500 cr and accuse him of boosting and tell all 10 players to report them, i saw that exact situation happen to a 1500 cr player 2 days ago. should a 1500 cr player playing in yolos be allowed to get 10 reports a game? queing for your cap you could get 100 reports for RMT boosting in a day than just hit with a 6 month ban for wanting to cap in yolo. if you got 6 month banned for getting your cap would you say the ethics and morals outweigh it?

For curiosity’s sake I looked into the countless WTS rating boost services listed on the in game LFG RBG system. Most of these listed services quoted me both real money ($) and gold costs. In addition the majority told me that “were full on gold boost atm”, but said we can get you in for real money. Below is the discord proof:

So based on my research, most of the gold boosters are selling services for real money (and gold), and prefer real money. These “gold boosters” should be banned.

If you ever get quoted real money for a boost from in game WTS services, take a screen shot and report it.

Just to double down on this. In my tin foil hat covered brain, it looks something like this.

  • Players buy $20 tokens for boosts.
  • Boosters collect millions of gold, which they sell to other players (who are willing to risk getting caught) for cheaper than the token would cost.
  • Players are spending this “cheaper gold” on boosts, game time, mounts, etc

  • Blizzard gets their cut. Boosters get their cut.
  • Blizzard quietly bans enough of these gold buyers so we never hear about them.
  • Once in a while, they make a “good faith” example of a few people (like what is happening now) so the community thinks they’re doing something.
  • The cycle repeats.

Of course this:

is the much more likely scenario. They just advertise “gold only” until you actually talk to them out of game.

Imagine being so cringe that you come and snag the first post on a video where YOU’RE THE RAT saying mass report to get him banned. Nice work Ethereal.

Hard to have sympathy for a 6 month ban that could just as easily be from actual RMT when there were some players who caught 100% perm bans in BC for selling the literal same exact boosts.

Blizzard changed their minds simply because they saw a cash cow in wow tokens. It really seems like people selling carries should be doing so at their own risk.

I’m not sure how anyone selling carries honestly thought they were 100% protected against things like this. Not saying it’s right to falsely report, but it is also hard to feel sorry for boosters in any way.

I am not going to lie, boosting is making alot of people quit the game. Sitting in LFG for Rated games already took long, and the consequence of people quiting makes the wait longer.

Imagine paying for a game that you cannot play.

Yes, mass reporting does get abused in this game.

However, in my experience Blizzard does investigate these and will unban those that were unfairly mass reported and will go after the people doing the mass report.

I had a guild member who was mass reported by an entire guild because he upset their guild leader once and he got an auto ban but when he appealed the ban the GM found that he did nothing wrong and unbanned him. The GM then went on to warn that guild that if they did another mass ban like that, they would be banned instead.

How about the people who mass-report character names to get a player kicked out of a rated match mid-game? And when that person gets back online none of their macros and hotkeys work because the profile was tied to the character name, etc

Yea i love facing 7-8 rank 1s or 2700 glads in the 2k bracket with my LFG grp of players. Hope you all get banned. Most of you do RMT anyways.

And same in the 3s bracket All the way from 1400 - 2100 just 2 rank 1s carrying an otherwise ok player and gate keeping people legitmately tryign to get their 1800 / 2100 and even glad.

Hope you all get banned.

I don’t like how pervasive gold boosting is on the current RBG ladder either, but abuse of the mass reporting feature is a very real, very detrimental problem in the grand scheme of things. He’s not wrong when he says that Twitch chat brigading on that feature is a huge concern, and it doesn’t help if/when you ever have a streamer vs. streamer scenario.

No one, regardless of their “reputation” within the WoW community deserves to be literally sniped into an automatic/“reviewed” 6+ month ban due to grey areas. Suspensions should be wholly manual, wholly investigated, and wholly black and white.

In the past, the worst issues plaguing the higher brackets were blatant cheating (kickbots and fly-hacking) and DDoS-ing. With those less and less common, having a built-in feature of the game being used to snipe people off the ladder at will is absolutely horrible for the PvP community.

Everyone who’s ever competed in high MMR RBGs knows of Kasper, and while I can’t remember if I’ve played with him on alts, I know I’ve queued with Perturbed a few times on alts back in Legion. He seemed pretty chill, so I can’t see either of them being the villains these kinds of a ban portray them as.

I honestly can’t think of a single time I heard the words “Kasper is a cheating POS” uttered by any team I played with, whether referencing RMT or otherwise. That kinda stuff was usually used against the known DDoSer/Fly hackers who rightfully ate very public bans years ago. I don’t know how many of those guys still play under different names, but I’m also a lot more casual than I used to be.

I mean, doesn’t everyone have a “broker” to manage their in-game gold?

Oh nooooo, not the boosters.

The person in the youtube video says " My payout is still with the broker and he has a balance sheet, I keep my gold with him since I don’t really need it".

Questions:
1.) If you don’t need the gold, why indulge in boosting?

2.) Keeping all the with the broker seems sus af, surely he isn’t selling it and sending your share in Fiat currency/ crypto etc? SURELY, RIGHT?

The thing is we don’t know that this ban was fully automated. For all we know Blizzard could have done an investigation and found that he was indeed doing RMTs.

I’d even say that for a ban like that, Blizzard probably did do an investigation and if they haven’t, they would after he appeals because they have in the past investigated these kinds of things for smaller offenses.

You’re right to wonder how much was actually investigated, but as someone who vividly remembers the report abuse certain 40-man Multiboxers used to gloat about on stream back in WOD, the likelihood of the same thing happening seems closer to 60/40 for me.

Again, I can’t speak for Kasper’s involvement in RMT, and I don’t know him well enough to say he’s truly innocent or guilty. I’m simply stating that he’s built a reputation in the higher MMR RBG brackets for years, and that kinda notoriety attracts a lot of attention, good and bad. It’s not too out of left field to think that people have moved on from DDoSing to mass reporting to snipe their competitors and/or people they’ve played with under the guise of RMT vigilantism.

I dunno, mebbe the broker converts the in-game gold to real money somehow and then does pay outs.
