So here’s my predicament: I just log into and start a new dwarf paladin. The name in question was “Dumbginger” (yes, she was in fact a redhead). Someone posts in general chat: “LF Leveling Guild.” I say “same” and that is the only thing I ever say on that character. A few minutes later, I get this warning. Is it related to my name I chose with no intent to offend anyone and could I actually get banned for this? (I just recently got banned for trolling in Ulduar general chat so I’m trying to lay low)
I’m now afraid to log in to my own character, in fear of getting banned again (possibly for a month this time) and missing out on the Childrens’ Week event for Wrath of the Lich King.
Are chat warnings not automatically sent out to you as soon as the number of reports on you reaches a certain number within a certain time frame? Why would I just now be getting a warning for something I said a week or two weeks ago in Ulduar general chat (that’s really the only time I chat in-game other than raid and guild).
Warnings are usually sent out pretty late. Though sometimes they’re instant, I remember this dude and me arguing and he reported me and I reported him and we both got warnings instantly. But they’re mainly sent out late. And I cannot answer that question, neither can Blizzard. Your best bet is to remain low and again, speak when needed. Don’t get into petty fights, trolling, joking, etc. if you want to do this, do this with your friends or people you trust.
Except this time I didn’t have bad chat behavior at all… I’m starting to think whoever reported me did it because of my name and the fact that “ginger” is an anagram of the n-word (no I did not come up with this name for that reason)
I like that you “care enough” to look for some reasonable explanation, when there is none to be had in this game. Enough people just reported you for whatever reason and since there is either no human looking at the reports or a human who does not give a …
you just ate the warning. I think my original statement highlights the pseudo morality of this company pretty nicely and therefore you shouldn’t be bothered by it in the first place.
You shouldn’t care, cause they def. do not care either.
I mean I would consider your name actionable but you wouldn’t get a chat ban for that, they’d just force you to rename your character. I’ve also seen worse names… so I think Blizzard has just given up. Which is a shame, tbh.
Remember that time when they tried to step it up with a social contract and move in the direction of FF14 and having an actual half-way decent community, and then in no way shape or form followed through? Instead, they just let players troll other players through undeserved mass reports with no repercussions.
Like dang, Blizz, if you want your game to be an absolute cesspool of humanity, at least be open about it so folks can make an informed decision going in, lol.
I’ve already been punished for my trolling a couple weeks back in Ulduar, and haven’t spoken in that general chat since. I just don’t understand why I got a chat behavior warning for typing “same” in Dun Morogh general chat? Is it the “dumb” part in my name? Because if it’s the “ginger” part and its anagramic relationship to that one word… I guess we can’t use adjectives in 2023. And why would I get a chat behavior warning for my name? Anyways it’s all good now since I haven’t been banned yet.
I will take to the customer support forums, thank you.
The Maga Trash that infects LFG with their subtle bigotry should receive time off to reflect on their ignorant pitiful existence. Multiple infractions for hate speech, even subtle hate speech, should eventually lead to a permanent banning. Even more innocent forms of trolling should come with consequences.
Did you even read the warning…? It pretty blatantly says that it doesn’t mean any action was taken against you. It’s literally just telling you that you were reported and to watch your behavior lol. If you didn’t do anything, then obviously nothing is going to happen to you. I get secondhand embarrassment every time these threads pop up.
Sorry, I was just a bit paranoid when I made the thread. I had already been banned for chat behavior a few weeks ago for 7 days (completely unrelated to this) so I’m really trying to avoid the big 30-day ban which would make me miss WotLK’s Childrens’ Week event.
