Warmode Suggestion

So I’m in Icecrown, doing my rare killing, and I notice how boring it is.

Most shards I’m on are DEAD. ZERO Alliance to be found.

I did find one shard with a 30 man Alliance raid, but that shard died almost immediately after we killed them.

So I began to wonder why this is the case. Why are most shards I’m seeing, even when I go out of my way to look for alive shards, dead?

And I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s because of the ease of shard hopping.
Let me explain.

ICC rares are faction-tagged.
This means that once a faction “secured” a rare, there is zero non-intrinsic incentive for the other faction to stay and fight if it won’t guarantee the rare flipping.
This causes a snowball effect where, if a shard becomes even slightly tilted to one side, the other side immediately opens group finder and gets out of that shard, creating polarization.
(Something similar happened in Classic.)

The end result is that you get lots of Alliance-only shards and lots of Horde-only shards with no way of going from one to the other (since there’s no Horde/Alliance to phase you in).

So what can be done to fix this?

Blizzard should make it where if you are on a shard where your faction is dominant, you should be allowed to “rephase” onto a shard where the other faction is dominant.

So let’s say I’m on a shard with all Horde, no Alliance. I’d be able to use this feature by clicking a button and porting to a shard with all Alliance, and no Horde.
Then I’d be able to make a group, bring some friends in, and contest the shard to see if we can wrestle it from the Alliance’s control.

Implementing this feature would only lead to more WPVP being done, and if you’re someone who prefers uncontested rares with no WPVP, then what are you doing in Warmode?

This feature would, of course, only be usable when your faction is the dominant on the shard, so no “escaping” from the enemy faction if yours is the minority.

And, ideally, it would include NA with Oceanic, so folks who worry about “only Horde dominating” need not worry since Oceanic is Alliance-dominant.

Nothing like slaughtering those OCE Alliance guys with a ping-time disadvantage of 100-150 msec, eh?

More seriously, doesn’t some algorithm already try to adjust the warmode shards so that they are more balanced between the two factions? Isn’t there also a bonus for opting into warmode if your faction is under-represented in warmode? Maybe these don’t work as intended or there is a specific imbalance due to the pre-patch event in Icecrown that isn’t accounted for by the shard-balancing algorithm. Maybe shards are Azeroth-wide rather than zone-wide, like just balance Icecrown vs balance all of Azeroth on this shard.

Seems doubtful Blizz has the resources to fix a problem like this if they’re still tuning Torghast and The Maw in time for 23-Nov.

Another thing to consider is that most top-raiding guilds are Horde. Is it also possible that players that enjoy PVP/Warmode overwhelmingly choose to play Horder rather than Alliance? If so (and I’ve no idea if that’s true), that makes balancing factions on a shard an uphill proposition, if not outright impossible.

It was quite glorious to land on them outnumbered and wipe them, stealing their rare kill. Goes to show what good leadership can do. We even waited at the next rare for them to come try to retaliate, but they tucked their little tails and ran off to an alliance dominated shard. :disappointed: we just wanted to play with them.

Aww, SS vs TM got too hard for you and you had to run here to talk? Cute.

Lol the worst thing about having a 100% win rate is that when you finally lose (once), it becomes a huge scandal.

Lol. You’re deluded if that’s what you think the issue was. But go on, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better about yourself.

The only way to fix is wpvp is remove sharding completely. Flying around with raids, outnumbering your opponent is what people with little wieners do.

SL will have decent pvp at the beginning when there will be no flying, but other than that, there is no saving wpvp.

No shards would be awesome, but when Blizzards servers can’t handle an 80v80, expecting them to handle a 10000v10000 is a “tad” bit much to ask, TBH.

Plus, some people care about server identity.

That’s exactly why sharding should be removed. Server identity is almost non existent with phasing and obviously blizzard servers can’t handle more than 2 raids fighting each other, but people know how to abuse phasing to bring in multiple raids.

Blizzard essentially created a worse issue by trying to save dead realms with phasing, and they’ve killed wpvp in the process. What they should have done is just merged servers.

How many beat downs did you suffer at the hands of Shadow to make you follow him around the forums on an alt, spewing your hate? You need a hug boo?

How about we just remove wpvp? I mean it’s should be clear now blizzard doesn’t really support pvp in general! Look at the pvp gear coming up in shadowlands, it’s trash!

Nah just remove pvp in general, no one plays that mini-game anyway.

Good point Mr Panda! Maybe after that we can remove battle pets next!

Why not just remove the whole game!?

Blizzard is already in the process of doing that. Lulz

Truuuuuu, next expac azeroth hatches and we all die, gg.

Bad gear won’t stop me from stomping on some Alliance in Stormwind, or raiding each zone.

Easy to kill alliance guards in war mode off. No need to even bring your little raid.

The guards are easy.
But I’m not after mere guards.
I want to kill and farm players.

That sounds illegal, maybe farm some crops instead.
