It was instant hype and a fan base. Even if it doesnt last past one season, they made back what they put in to it im sure. Doesnt matter if its actually good or not.
They got your engagement = win.

I think I’ve gotten to a point - particularly with Star Wars fans yelling that recent X doesn’t match extended universe legends Y - where if something is good and enjoyable, it just is. And I don’t really care if it matches a particular lore point. Let’s just try to enjoy art that people are making that we can have fun from, and care less if it doesn’t perfectly match our perceptions of whichever IP it’s supposed to fit.
I don’t think I’ve ever met a ‘fandom’ that wasn’t toxic. And I think a lot of good shows, movies, stories, etc. would get out there and appreciated if we weren’t so pedantic and critical to holding it against our rose tinted glass perceptions.
Here’s the thing for me.
I know a lot of shows have to grow and change. Nothing can stay stagnant. I despised the Michael Bay Transformers movies because they basically paid lip service to the franchise just so 'Murican Military can fight next to Cool Giant Robots and blow the holy hell out of Cool Evil Giant Robots … but I could still enjoy them.
Velma? The Netflix Resident Evil series? The LOTR-prequel? The host of shows, movies and ‘reboots’ that don’t even bother to pay even the slimmest homage to the franchise they are trying to grab viewers from? I hate them with a burning passion.
I don’t mind a franchise going in a new direction. I like the new Star Wars trilogy, my only change would have been Rey’s powers being unstable and failing her at crucial points, all leading up to the reveal that it was Palpatine himself manipulating the Force through her. Rey was merely a Force Sensitive, not a Chosen One like Luke, Lei, Anakin and, to a lesser extent, Kylo Ren. It would explain why Luke recoils and says that Rey’s Force signature immediately went to the ‘Dark’ side of the Force, she’s got the most intelligent and manipulative Sith Lord in history ‘loaning’ her his strength, and neither Rey nor Luke have any idea it is happening.
It is when Palpatine retracts his ‘gift’ and intends to use her as a vessel for his essence that all the Jedi who became Force Ghosts come in and ask Rey to let them help her fight this threat, to her existence, to the Galaxy, to the Force, to all of Life itself. And then the fight plays out.
Too many directors, too many screen writers, too many corporate hacks are trying to say “My vision is perfect and flawless and trumps everything that came before it!” and never stopping to consider if it was the flaws, the depth, the passion and the depths that the people who make the franchise, be it the original creators, the fandoms, the people who previously rebooted the series or setting, built something strong, something deep, something worth paying respect to.
If you want to make something new and better and unique, by all means, go for it … but stand on your own merit, or be prepared to give due respect to the franchise you’re working with, or the fans with eviscerate you where you stand, regardless of if your effort was good or bad.

I’m…preeeeetty sure thats not how the Force works
The lotr show wasn’t very good, even if it was it’s own stand alone fantasy series with no relation to Tolkien. Just wasn’t very good
It was visually beautiful though, I loved the costuming, the sets were amazing and the casting were all great. Deesa and the dwarves were the best outta all of it but oof it was a stinker of a show overall.
That’s kind of Darh Sidious’s whole shtick. He perverts, he corrupts, he twists and distorts anything and everything he can. He uses Ancient Sith Alchemy, the most modern science and technology, abuses and manipulates both the Light and Dark side of the Force and has a thousand, thousand plans constantly brewing away in the background, all to grant him even a fraction more power and extend his life even a few minutes more.
The reveal that Rey is just another Snoke, that she’s just one more Machiavellian ploy for immortality and power, would have been perfect way to explain how it had all played out.
Would have worked if that was the initial plan. But you can tell that was just shoe horned in.
And that’s fine. Dislike the show. It definitely had its issues. But the problem for me is just when people get mad it didn’t perfectly line up X,Y,Z.
Dislike things on their merits, not because of their IP.
If you’re not going to bother fitting in to the IP, why be a part of it…
Yah, honestly I’d have been on board if they did a show set in the forth age and just go full fan fiction and explore stuff in the east and south OR if they really had to do a prequel do a prequel with all the cool first age elf war aganist Morgoth so we could have stupid magic flying gondolas fighting big dragon
I want to like rings of power, high budget fantasy, in the year 2022, with great casting, localized entirely on torrents? But the overall plot and twist at the end was such a let down.
No.

Jinkies that show is horrible.
This thread has went places.
But its indicative of how most WPVP conversations go lol.
This is so booooooring
300+ pages and not a single ounce of usable drama.
At this rate, we’ll not have enough pointless, excessively Online nonsense to make it through the summer. These are dire times.
Be the change you want to see.
Dont worry. I got this.
Ready?
WRA is full of players who were chased off MG for being bad.
Not me. I was chased off thorium brotherhood for being bad
Damn.
Well I guess that still works for this.
