I was a strong advocate for PvP and WM early on, but with 8.2 I have changed my mind completely. The area is so tight that I am farmed by horde everywhere I go, and often there isn’t another alliance in sight to even help me out. Also the sharding and phasing in the new zones is horrible.
I’m an original vanilla player and came back to BFA to get ready for classic. This game has changed so much it’s basically a meme at this point. The fact that the horde have paladins alone is enough to show me blizzard lost their way.
As for the comments above about OW, that game is completely dead. Imagine if everyone had the alliance WM experience, that’s OW.
It isn’t just the pack hunting, it’s also 120s camping lowbie zones. My guy is only level 30 and I tried moving to five different zones and got hit within minutes each time. Forget it. Warmode off, done and done.
Just out of curiosity how many of you played on PVP servers before warmode?
I know there are no PVP servers anymore but when I first started playing this game years ago I was Alliance on Burning Legion a Horde dominated PVP server for the first 5 or 6 years. Generally while leveling each faction would pretty much leave the other alone until max level.
Not really, I can get 4 or 5 quests done with out warmode in the same time it takes me to get 1 or 2 done with it on. because of corpse running, being camped, and res timers. 5 quests at 100 ap,for example, gets me 500 ap, 2 quests with 30 percent bonus get me 260 ap, I get almost twice as much in the same time with out war mode on. Seems to me war mode off with no bonus gets me more.
I guess, you can think what ever you want, I don’t care. But I’ll keep war mode off and make more gold, ap and get more experience. It better than putting up with horde.
Sorry I retract part of my last statement I don’t want to insult all the potatoes at least they live wm every day never knowing whether or not they will be the next meal.
2000IQ vanilla opinion coming through:
WM and bonuses was never the problem. World PvP died a death with streamlined BG farming and a lack of worthwhile rewards for engaging in world PvP. I’m not unfair in my opinions, this started in TBC with the introduction of flying. Adding the z axis to chasing down the opposing faction made warbands and raids on cities almost entirely moot; there’s a reason that even through WotLK, raiding vanilla cities was the most fun world PvP to be found in the game.
Anyway, as long as BGs are easy to grind, and flying is a thing, world PvP is dead. Short of adding universally useful rewards, stuff for all types of content within the game, there’s not much to be done without removing staple features of the current game.
Offering non-PVP rewards to toggle on a PVP flag is a dumb idea, people who want to engage in WPvP should do so because they enjoy PVP, and at most get compensated with PVP rewards.
It also doesn’t help that the variable bonus is based on global faction balance, rather than the faction balance at the server / shard level.
On RP servers, the world isn’t sharded with others, and on a heavy Alliance servers (or even just dead servers), Alliance still get a 30% bonus because of the imbalances globally.
Same thing with Oceanic - balance is inverted from the global average, yet the bonus is still based on the global average.
Lastly, the ability to phase / shard at will using LFG, as well as the ability to form raids and change the balance within a shard using LFG makes the idea of setting bonuses globally idiotic.
The solution is to remove AOO and all the XP / resource bonuses, baring that, only allow players to enable warmode from a queue type system that ensures a reasonably balanced shard (and disable the ability to use LFG to move players into and out of shards).
A possible compromise would be a system that only allows changing the warmode flag once a week, and when flagged, highly restricts the ability to use LFG for world content.
If players couldn’t enable and disable warmode all the time, and couldn’t abuse LFG to shift raid groups around shards exacerbating the balance issues, Blizzard might be able to better manage balance and warmode might not be the trash system it is today (though I still feel the bonuses should be removed).
If the gear had any value at all, the non-pvpers would scream bloody murder. Just look at the inevitable children’s week melt downs. Flipside, pointless to create useless incentives.
You can’t without removing sharding and flying. World PvP relies on players entering the world content instead of something instanced, and then putting those players in a situation to interact with the opposing faction. Sharding and flying both eliminate this interaction. Regardless of how many shiny things are added into the world to lure players out, they still don’t ever have to see each other.
On top of that, there are now so many daily busy work tasks to accomplish that the idea of interrupting the checklist for some world PvP is not appealing.
