No. Necromancy has enough subject matter without overlapping with DK or Warlock that it should be its own class.
Giving demo a ‘necromancer’ skin is the biggest disservice that could possibly be done to the archtype.
Death Magic is as expansive as Light, Fel, Void, or Arcane. We have Paladins and Priests, Demon Hunters and Warlocks, there’s no reason for there not to be Death Knights and Necromancers at the same time. There’s multiple archtypes that can exist in a ranged/ranged/healer class that slots into necromancer just about perfectly.
Multiple bosses and NPCs could be taken as a template for specs.
Not exactly. Pretty much any Shadow mage can perform Necromancy. Look at the Shadowmoon on Alternate Draenor. The original Lich King was a Warlock after all. Furthermore, “Fel” isn’t the only type of magic that Warlocks practice. Two of the three existing Warlock specs focus on shadow magic. Not only that but Warlocks are also already intrinsically skilled in capturing, manipulating, and using souls.
Warlocks in Classic were built on the Necromancer class from EQ. A pet-class that casts dots and fear - that was a necromancer from EQ. They just changed the paint and called it something else.
There’s one very good reason: We dont need another class. There are too many classes and specs in the game already, and blizzard has proven they cant handle what they’ve already got on their plate.
Improve what already exists, stop trying to add something that is redundant and not necessary.
Good luck trying to convince anyone around here that. We’ve been at this whole “Give us Necromancer” thing for a while now and all people seem capable of is regurgitate the same excuses ad nauseam. Meanwhile, they had no problem making it work in Diablo 3 despite the game having what was supposed to be a replacement for the Necromancer (i.e. Witch Doctor), but of course it’s easier to say “no” than to put any actual effort into coming up with solutions to make it work.
Blood and Anima based drain healer with Vampire fluff. Use damage spells to fill up a bar, use the bar as a resource to heal your friends. It’s really easy to come up with these things.
Priest does not fill this archtype. Priest also pushes away DPS players by having only 1, very niche DPS spec with a hyperfocused playstyle. We need more rDPS and healers in the game as a whole.
All I ever hear from Unholy Death Knight is complaints so a great idea would be to give it a revamp along the lines of what Demonology received in Battle for Azeroth and use what’s trimmed alongside ideas from Diablo 3 to make a proper Necromancer.
Read post above. Blood, Anima, and life force manipulation is very much in the running for a healing spec. Rip life force from enemies, use it to infuse your allies with the power to fight on.
Locks don’t do necro, what are you gonna raise a withered or burnt husk? Just like mages don’t burn wounds shut. Necro should just be it’s own class like dark ranger.
