Yes it will get better. Make sure you’re snapshotting your corruption with the highest buffs possible and you’ll see gains. Check the sims to see how your gearing upgrades will change your dps.
Get the crafted pieces / Conquest pieces and you’ll be well on your way to doing decent damage.
Pvp gear is awful but you should still be doing like double the dps you stated. Aff lock is one of the harder playstyles so rolling fotm/meta in this case might not be the play if you find it hard
I haven’t pvp’d this xpac yet but not sure if the pvp gear is that great for affliction yet. Last seasons pvp gear had like no haste and all crit and seemed better fit for destro. What is your haste at? As far as snapshotting you only have to recast corruption for dmg% crit% buffs for example (Tricks of the Trade) and obviously when under 35%. Spellpower and haste buffs will automatically snapshot when refreshing corruption with Sbolt, Haunt, Drain soul… Other than that and maintaining dots, make sure you have minimal movement (you want to hard cast shadowbolt as much as you can before drain phase). Drain Phase is also the perfect time to pop eng gloves/speed potion as DS scales really good with haste. Last but not least make sure you are keeping the +SP up from life tap glyph.
I second this. Snapshotting corruption is super important. The sims are really helpful to see what pieces will help you, but it’s still up to you to get the priority/rotation down, and that’s non-trivial for affliction.
I was trying to follow the guide, life tap, shadowbolt, trinket, then snapshot corruption, shadowbolt spam while keeping haunt up, switching to drain life at 35%. I was just expecting on a target dummy to do something around 5k dps in ilvl 200 gear, not 3k dps. I know warlocks in raids pull 8k to 9k while having to actually do mechanics.
It isn’t so much a fotm reroll, just an alt that I finally got to 80 and was going to try to raid with. I normally heal on my holy pally.
I think you meant 25% then drain soul. At 35% you recast corruption. You will not hit 6-7k prob on the target dummy seeing as you can’t execute a dummy. You def prob need more haste 100%
Right yes meant drain soul. I’m playing around with the simulator to see if I can get an idea what I could expect to see on a target dummy in this gear, so I can practice the rotation and timing.
Edit: Ok, I put in my gear, selected a 25 naxx patch fight with no raid buffs or boss debuffs and the simulation dps was 3600, which makes me feel a bit better about doing 3.2k on the target dummy. Gear seems to matter.
Target dummy dps will always be significantly lower than raid dps. My DK can do around 8k on something like Ignis but I’m not confident I can even break 5k consistently on a dummy. Its especially an issue for locks who rely on execute phases to boost dps.
