Warcraft on Xbox: coming soon?

WoW on console is theoretically possible, though I don’t know if Microsoft would consider the work to make it so a financially-sound investment. I don’t think it will show up included with Game Pass any time soon though, even with a console port. FFXIV on Xbox requires both the regular subscription to Square Enix in addition to the Game Pass subscription, rather than being included baseline with any of the Game Pass subscriptions, making it more expensive to play on Xbox than other platforms. WoW is one of the few live service games that can still demand a substantial monthly subscription fee from all players, and as long as that remains the case, it makes no sense to include WoW as part of any Game Pass subscription.

If they did do it, they would monetize the heck out of it. If the next gen xbox came out with a Warcraft exclusive on it, it would sell like crazy. And give some free game time until the fees start to kick in.

PC and Arcades IMO made it big at the same time which was 1978 or so you have both Space Invaders and Akalabeth or whatever Origin (Richard Garriot’s) first game was, although Pong technically predated them with Atari they weren’t really “consoles” as we understand them now, although we officially count them as consoles.

Consoles as we know them now, not experimental things with controllers with telephone dial controllers stuff really began with the famicom in 1983.

The way I see it, the PC and Arcade scene is older than consoles in terms of making an impact, and have traditions that are older than consoles (as the modern understanding of console is).

So both Arcades and PCs have proud heritages and accompanying mechanics and things that make them special and unique, but times have changed and I now think there isn’t really anything PCs can deliver that is unique that couldn’t be done more simply and accessibly on a console.

Arcades had to face this reality decades ago, although you still had cool things like House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn at Dave and Busters, or Music Diver by Taito, or the Fate Grand Order game on big machines (mostly stuff in Japan).

So even as a PC first player I now think just everything should be on consoles honestly, it makes the world a simpler place, and I think it might even benefit WoW from a gameplay standpoint.

All I have on my PC is WoW, Guild Wars 2, and Everquest, that’s it, I can’t even think of more than a handful of PC exclusive games at this point.

The only countervailing point is the mouse for FPS games, but I’ve played enough Planetside 2 on PS4 to say it’s honestly fine with a controller.

I couldn’t imagine playing one of the biggest games in the genre and not knowing that it is completely compatible with controllers and there are several ways to do keybinds using triggers it’s possible to set up without an addon but consoleport makes everything pretty easy. FFXIV does it without an addon. Have you never heard of that game? It’s rotations are more complex than wow. I have more hotkeys on that game than any class in WoW.

Consoleport forces YOU to go through the hoops of setting up keybinds, so that you know what all 30+ of them are and have some personal logic behind them. Telling some random yokel on a console that they need to hit R1+R2 to select partyframes, arrow to a person who needs a decurse, and then hit X+Y+L2 to actually cast the decurse is a great way to make people think this is some impenetrable EVE-like BS and drop it forever.

Just because you can make it work doesn’t mean it’s a good experience for people used to Halo.
