Warcraft has detected your computer is using an intel 13th or 14th Generation processor

“World of warcraft has detected your computer is using an intel 13th or 14th generation processor that does not have the proper updates installed to address potential processor instability issues. It is highly recommended to update the BIOS on your motherboard to the latest version with intel’s microcode 0x12b or later.”.

I am running an Intel core I9-14900K and a Prime z790-a Wifi

Wow is the only game that has popped this message up. I use AI suit and it is not showing nor suggesting an update…

I also had this message pop up today. My set up isn’t even 4 months old…and I cooked?

Not really a new message, the update to the client was added about 3 weeks ago.

Is your PC a prebuilt, or home brew?

Not all prebuilds have updated bios yet, I do not think.

Mine is a semi custom prebuilt from Apex gaming. The Apex Xtreme with the i9 upgrade along with a few other upgrade

I have a custom build that I put together; I have updated my bios and it still keeps popping up. Guess it wants me to install a fire exstiguisher next to my computer

That board has a BIOS update (1802) to the 0x12b microcode.

AI suite may not be showing it, but it exists on the Asus website.

got this message intel 14th gen i9 rtx 4070ti.
what do we do about this in reality? ignore or get bios update? on a powerspec pc i think MSI motherboard

Yea, I had to download the update to a USB and then launch BIOS. Using Ez Flash utility is kind of a pain in the butt but i figured it out.

Also with my AIO I was getting a Fan error and had to ignore it to boot back up. Water cooler fans are spinning, no more message and the update worked.

The 13th and 14th gen issue is well known. It’s not a wow thing it’s an intel thing. If you ignore it, eventually your CPU will be completely fried. There is no way to fix the damage that’s been done, updating just prevents future damage from occuring.

kk im doing the bios update now then… just figured it out

Does that message mean that the damage has already occurred? My i9 14900k is running at normal temps currently and I haven’t had any issues (yet) with crashes etc. is it more of a warning telling you that you SHOULD upgrade the bios if your pc is experiencing crashes and blue screens?

If you have a 13th of 14th gen that hasn’t had the update then yes damage has occurred.

So should I replace my computer then? It cost $6k and is less than a year old :expressionless:

I believe it was voltage out of spec, not heat, in this case.

Intel extended the warrantees for the CPU, so you probably can RMA that alone. Not sure how that process works, probably reach out to Intel or your PC builder.

The voltage and allowed wattage that Intel gave the MB manufacturers was way to high. This incorrect information destroys the chips. Intel extended the warranty for the CPU’s. If you have a 13th or 14 gen CPU and it was operated out of spec for any length of time it would be a good idea to RMA it. And make sure the bios has been updated to the correct spec . If no bios update for your computer then you will need to adjust the boost settings or disable speed step

As far as I know it’s a warning that damage can and will happen if you really push your system for prolonged periods, running complex applications and very large files. Think video production or music production and some other applications.

One of the microcode updates is to patch high voltage at idle/low usage, so pushing your system and running heavy tasks is absolutely not a requirement to damage 13th/14th gen.

How can you check if damage has been done?

Abnormal performance or system instability are signs, but I don’t believe there’s a surefire way to check whether or not your processor has degraded or by how much. Intel has a diagnostic tool, but I’ve seen people report it passing all the diagnostic tests while having stability problems.
