Warbands Are Not What I Expected

Warbands are kind of lame. I really thought Blizzard was going to let us make custom solo dungeon teams with our alts, and even have our Warband characters follow us around in the open world doing quests and exploration.

It’d be so nice to have all of my toons in a party going on adventures, especially since modern WoW is all instanced combat like dungeons and raids. I miss the Vanilla and BC days, running around doing stuff with friends. People wanting to randomly go about the world are so few and far between now, we really should consider Warband solo play.

And please don’t tell me to just join a group, I clearly do group play. I just want more world stuff to do, it used to be the core gameplay of WoW and it’s been lost to the e-sports queued/LFG content.

Why would you ever think that?

Warband sounds more like something to go to war with. Not sit around a campfire for a slight bonus XP and item sharing. Also, they have the tech, they should really consider this.

Terrible name, it should have been called legacy so people wouldn’t be confused.

Just use follower dungeons. Same thing.

Having a horde of AI’s running around all the time with players would be a great way to get the servers to absolutley chug, to say nothing of how it would become an absolute nightmare to properly balance.

I won’t lie- I feel like that’s the next step.

Especially now that follower dungeons exist.

There’s no reason we can’t just replace the followers with our own alts, even if they’re just NPCs.

And on the road map there is an indication that Warbands are getting expanded to include more bonuses. They haven’t given any specifics yet.

It’s been hinted at that you’ll be able to use alts in follower dungeons, but nothing definite yet.

Couldn’t agree more. Sharing things is a first step, but such a tiny one, even more when you run your own guild. In the MMO genre, SWtor is over 13 years old, I had hopes we could at least use a toon to follow us - we kinda did in WoD after all. I have no feeling of a “warband” at all, very disappointing.

The whole “warbands” feature does feel really undercooked.

It’s really not even a feature, just a fancier character-select screen lol.

The bank, and warbound items, are more of the ‘feature’.

It’s more systems than anything else, not really noticeable for us.

Especially if you don’t play alts, it’s a nothingburger.

I would have to say this is probably the worst part of the game is people’s personal expectations of what certain content and functionality should be. Instead of just looking at it, reading about it, and using it as intended, they instead have to say how disappointed they are that it didn’t turn out exactly the way it did in their mind. it’s no wonder the devs can’t win and stopped trying.

No, the system is being used as intended, and people have higher expectations for a game like WoW that makes so much money and that has been so dominant for 20 years. Giving us constantly underwhelming patches and updates is not the answer.

All they did with Warbands is give us a holiday “sale”. They nerfed XP gains by killing heirlooms and giving us less dungeon XP, then resold 25% XP gains to use as a Warbands feature.

Then they repacked loot sharing into a “warbands” feature, when most loot was BOE or shareable anyway. The only really good thing they did was make currency tradeable, but TBH they could have just as easily made account bound currency without the need to trade it back and fourth.

It’s crazy that people addressing opinions on a forum and wanting better content somehow equates to you giving the devs an excuse to not be good at their job and to underperform or throw their hands up… LOL.

Devs, haven’t really been good at their job in a while. Legion was probably the last great expansion. This one had a lot of potential, but it fizzled out in four short months and the only thing we got out of it were some quality of life improvements. I’m not giving them an excuse to do anything. I’m simply explaining that they’ve thrown their hands up and you expecting something from them after 20 years is laughable. Did you even do the anniversary event that was beyond lackluster and could’ve been so much better? it’s not my fault you’ve got personal expectations that will never be met.

They are exactly what they stated they would be.

Any failure of expectations is in the person with expectations that conflicted with released info.

I’m just stating my disappointment. I don’t really expect them to do anything groundbreaking at this point. At the end of the day I acknowledge that this game was created by great men who have long since left this company and industry. They are all old and retired, so they game, the story, everything that made WarCraft amazing is all gone. The modern crew is just riding coat tails and injecting their own garbage into this franchise while bringing it down slowly. Some stuff that is added is really good, but the overall product is lackluster. The story/lore is what’s really suffered the most, but modern corporations ruin all old franchises.

I’d say it feels oversold. They made a big deal of it, but it is exactly what they said it’d be, if you dug to read it all.

this is why I’ve moved on to conquest of Azeroth. I can now play a completely customizable class on a free game with no sub and have access to professions that should already be in retail. I learned a long time ago, not to have any preconceived notions or personal expectations about this game. it all went out the window with Legion when the class hall went away.

We talking about WotLK?

WoW players love getting upset at features they were never promised to be getting in the first place.

GD doesn’t disappoint.
