Hey everyone.
Look, I’m going to be blunt, I’m completely at a loss here. Today my Collector’s Edition for the War Within arrived, and I was completely psyched! I sat outside waiting for the delivery so that it wouldn’t get sent to the post office. As soon as it arrived I opened everything up and assembled the gryphon statue (Looks great by the way! Love it!).
But as I looked through the rest of the items, the artbook and the collector pin, I realized that the CD Key was missing. I checked the box in case it was hiding somewhere else, if there was another lift out section beneath the artbook and collector pin but no, it’s just not there at all.
So what do I do? I paid close to $300 for the CE (which includes delivery and taxes), but I can’t redeem a key I don’t have. Do I contact the retailer that I bought it from? Or do I contact Blizzard support directly via a ticket (live chat seems to be unavailable despite it being within opening hours). Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Take it up with the gear store unfortunately.
I didn’t purchase it through the gear store. So I don’t see how that would help.
I purchased it through a local retailer, EB Games, which is who I’ve purchased every previous WoW CE through with no issues. This is the first time anything has been missing from the box.
So, as I said in my initial post, I’m at a loss on what to do. Do I contact the retailer? Or do I put in a ticket with Blizzard support?
It’d be more with the retailer - Blizzard themselves don’t make the stuff as it’d done by a 3rd party. You can try to get a hold of the gear stuff support for support help.

Start with the retailer you bought it from, if it’s a known issue they MIGHT have a way to help you. Or at least the direction to point you.

This does sound like your best recourse.

Alright, so update on this. I have contacted the retailer. I was supposed to get a call back from them today about my cd-key being missing, but that didn’t happen. I’ll be contacting them again tomorrow to make sure that it gets replaced.
So for now this can be considered resolved. If I do get stonewalled by the retailer though I’ll reach out to Blizzard directly.
Thank you.
Edit:
Okay, so it turns out the CD-Key was in the box. After contacting the retailer and double-checking everything, I found that in the bottom layer of the foam packaging designed to keep the package from jostling during transit there was a small section I could remove and beneath that was the envelope.
I’m lucky that I didn’t toss the box straight into the garbage, which I was tempted to do yesterday just to clean up any mess.
CMs you can lock this thread now if needed.

I also received my Collector’s Edition (mine was order from the Blizzard Gear Store) and it is missing the Game Key. However I have pulled all of the packing out and the game key is nowhere to be found. It was not placed in that envelope shaped space of the black styrofoam packing where it should have been. I sent in a request to the Blizzard Gear Store immediately after a thorough search of the contents. I sent to them a final email, hoping that they can give me some sort of resolution…

Hello again,
This unfortunately does not help my situation. Upon opening my box with the correct side up - I did see the envelope shaped slot, but there was nothing on top. In fact it was completely flush with the rest of the black styrofoam and not pressed down in order to give space and house a game key envelope on top (as shown in that video you sent). I continued unpacking the rest of the box, pulling all of the contents out, including the packing, and found that there was no game key in my shipment. At the beginning of this process I already knew that this is a situation of "how do I prove I am not lying, when someone could have easily just removed the game key envelope and sent a photo of it not being there (which would prove nothing)?".
I am still hopeful you can see that my account has zero fraudulent history, and that I am a long-time subscriber, to aid in showing that my request can be taken seriously and considered trustworthy. I am a lover in everything World of Warcraft and this is literally the only game that I play in my free time.
I see that it was stated the vendor/client has confirmed that all codes were packaged correctly. I imagine that they can only 100% confirm that, if they have video evidence of every single box they handle being packed and wrapped. I believe it is safe to presume that they did not go through (assuming that they have this video evidence) to ensure that one of the boxes was not missed. -or that a code was not stolen instead of packaged. I bring up this point to show that this vendor/client is being given a courtesy in which I believe I am not.
Please, please, please! If there is ANYTHING that you or the Blizzard Gear Store can do to make this right so that I can fully experience the next expansion to the extent that I have invested in with my money, I would be grateful. Thank you again for taking such care with my case and I hope you have a great Thursday.

You’re not alone sir, I also have the same issue. I’ve been through every square inch of the box they sent and have no key as well. I’ve got an email out to the Blizzard gear store as well but I suspect I’m going to get the run-around.
My hope at this point is that they will have done this to more people and it will get picked up by Wowhead or MMO-Champ. Once its considered a “known issue”, their position on replacement keys should change.

I just received my CE from JB Hi-Fi in Australia. I found the envelope under the foam section, on my couch where I had tossed the foam. Very poor form Blizzard. I can see how people can inadvertently discard these envelopes. How hard could it be to label the box, or stick the damn thing into the CE Box?
Thats more on the gear store then blizzard on packaging.

I received my code but it’s invalid and appears to differ from the standard code of xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx to be instead xxxx-xxxx-xxxxx-xxxx-xxxxx
Anyone else had this issue?
There were instances where people received the wrong version of the game (EU vs. NA). That said, if you put in a ticket for assistance, they should be able to help out. Be sure to include the code (or a picture of it) of what you received:

I received my Collector’s Edition from the gear store and the envelop was missing. I submitted a ticket on Saturday, July 27. I received an automated response on the same day. On Monday, July 29, I received an email
From Zach basically stating inquirers were being made. Today, July 31, I received an email stating all units were checked by quality control and no boxes were missing keys and I was encouraged to double and triple check my box.
I ordered one edition for me and one for my spouse. I know what I am looking for. The envelop is missing in one box. I replied that I do not consider this ticket closed.
Blizzard must rectify this issue.

Someone mentioned they found the envelope under the foam packing they missed the first time.
