I’ve assumed the darker NE skin tones are related to the night warrior storyline. I’m also not an Alliance player though, so I’m more focused on my own factions elves.
I do intend to roll a dark-skinned WIldhammer alt in Shadowlands though, I’ve always wanted them and they have actually always been present in lore.
I wish they added a red skin color for belfs. Offered some more fel tainted options. I loved the idea of corrupted elves twisted by the magic they were consuming. These options were not added for lore reasons though it was never the motivation to expand the customization options in this way. They said their reasons at blizzcon pretty clearly and people can accept it or not.
I think that there’s some interesting discussions that could be had on the biology of elves and how they would adapt differently then the species that came from the curse of flesh but it is really too loaded of a topic to be honest.
Then they’re out of place, too, but it’s less noticeable to me because it’s not watering down a non-human species to be even more human-like.
I just want elves to be elves, man.
Blizzard stated that they are not going to provide explanations for every customization they are implementing. They are implementing new features for players to further customized their character the way the see fit.
If you want to play a fair skinned elf, you do you. However, those that want a darker skintone now have that option and you’re going to have to deal with it. You’re also going to have to deal with the fact that it existing doesn’t sully/dilute the lore of the race.
unless they’re elves because elves, unlike everyone else, need an explanation because of the fantasy setting (where you could just accept the love and warmth of the Sunwell into your heart and mind) which relies on old tropes and stereotypes that go back to before any of our time and while respecting source material is okay, it’s also okay to flex creativity and variety in a fantasy setting
