the devs have already said they have to design the content around the addons. which again perpetuates the feedback loop of making them harder and harder which makes the addons required which… never ends.
and now they have indicated they will finally push back on it so here we are
But they havent said anything about changing the content. All they said is that they want to go after addons. Nothing else. This “maybe” is theoretical and apologetic for their design failures.
They’re lying.
It’s just them pulling this, again:

I guess we have to see how it plays out then
A classic trick is to absorb addons into the native UI. A lot of addons would be rendered unnecessary this way and we would not need to worry about sudden LUA errors.
As a result, Hazzikostas said, players can expect Blizzard to remove more functionality from WeakAuras in raids in the future—and, hopefully, to add more in-game sources of information and more time to react, as a result.
Looks like Weak Auras is on the chopping block first.
Which just means hiding more things from the players.
That’s what ‘private auras’ are all about: hiding from you which other players have the mechanic, so you cannot coordinate the mechanics.
Take Smolderon’s Mythic mechanic as an example, which was a ‘private aura’, WHICH MEANS IT DOESN’T EVEN SHOW UP ON THE DEFAULT GAME FRAMES. Private mechanics mean Blizzard is HIDING the mechanic from the people who have it, while telling them to coordinate with others who have it - but there’s no way to know who has it.
Blizzard’s “attempt to reduce use of addons” does the opposite. It needs to stop.

They keep talking about the QoL they are adding, and never seem to mention the QoL they are removing.
They need to simultaneously ban add ons then. It’s not “just stop making them”
Ugh, yes please. This is long overdue.

Absolutely not.
For the reason posted right after you said this (and now showing above my respose.
Something as basic as COORDINATES needs to be in the game. And their in-game, default solution … sorta works. I’m glad they included it. But to NOT include it with default coordinates proves how UTTERLY out of touch they are with how bad their UI is.
Nothing about coordinates is “game-breaking.” But it adds so much to the playability and functionality of the game that to argue against it is to prove you’re just being contrarian.
There is an OBVIOUS difference between the mods that “do too much”, and those that truly are just “preference options” that the UI was designed from the start to include.
We need to break degenerate AH players and cheats before we even begin to talk about things like coordinates. Be serious.

Finally addons will stop playing game for “top players”.
Welcome back to the rest of the community.
Rare surprising W for Blizzard if they remove all addons.
I’m ok with some addons that don’t affect gameplay like dialogue UI that do simple things like zoom in when you’re talking to a Npc, or slowly scroll text so it’s easier to read.
Though it’d be cool to have stuff like that built
In for RP, like a character profile so people can read your characters backstory or whatnot.
Stuff like that is fine.
It’s stuff that tells you how to play that I think needs to have an in game solution (a good one) created, and then the addons will fall off.
Not healing without an addon. That’s a non starter
There is like a 1 min pause after each … and … every … line … of … text.
Are you also juggling 6 chainsaws while you read text?
To say nothing of that fact all text is output to the chat window and you can just read it as slow as you want.
How is this even a request? lol
It’s an optional feature that used to exist that they removed for some reason.
It’s nice when you want to RP and the game slows you down cause I don’t have that kinda willpower after 10 years of using smartphones …
