Is there an average interval between crate drops? Say, 15 minutes? And is the interval about the same for each zone?
Or is it on really random intervals when the crates appear?

It varies, but usuually 5 minutes tops. It can be low as seconds apart, but you usually don’t want crates dropping any lower then 1 minute apart.
independent zones are about 16-18 minutes, more than 15, less than 20.

I misunderstood. Thought you meant time between waiting from jumping one to the next. But yea.

Each zone has it’s own ~15 minute timer. And each zone can have multiple shards with their own timer too.
