The mount was free for those who purchased the 6 month subscription. The thing you’re probably forgetting is that you were going to pay for those 6 months anyway to continue playing the game. Blizzard made you a deal at the time. If you chose to save some money by buying your game time in bulk they would throw in a mount on top of the purchase.
People who are playing now not only have to pay for said game time but they now have to pay an additional $25 if they want the mount, too.
If you bought your game time when the promotion was going on, great. Congratulations. There’s no sense in complaining about people having the opportunity to buy something you got for free.
So…it WASN’T free? It cost as much as a 6 month sub.
That’s a HUGE assumption you’re making there…with how bad this expansion was, I think a lot of people got the mount and regretted it dearly. I know I did. I was hoping to get a refund if it was possible.
Knowing there was no content coming soon and the game was going to be bad and they wouldn’t be able to retain subs.
Blizzard being greedy and milking people for more money? Well paint me surprised.
Yeah! Advertise something as limited time only, then just sell it to everyone again later!
So you’re okay with Blizzard re-introducing CM mode gear in the cash shop? Or mage tower transmogs in the cash shop too then?
" and you’ll also receive the epic new Dreadwake mount free ! The Dreadwake mount will then arrive as a stand-alone mount in the Blizzard Shop and in-game shop sometime in 2019."
What you paid for was six months of game time. The price you paid, then, for 6 months is the same price you’ll pay now for 6 months. Nothing has changed on that front. The only difference between then and now is Blizzard said - then - “Hey. If you buy this bulk game time, we’ll throw in a free mount on top of it.”
You did not buy the mount for $80.00 (rounding up). You bought game time for $80. Again, the same price you would pay today.
Perhaps. Think about it logically, though. How many people would purchase six months of game time to a game they were thinking about quitting? That makes no sense. Furthering this consideration, if a single mount is enough to entice someone to play an additional 6 months then the expansion, as a whole, couldn’t be that bad after all. I mean, let’s be real. If the entire expansion is so bad, a single item isn’t going to change that perspective, yeah? No. The logical deduction here is that if they are willing to purchase the six months in bulk then they had no real intentions of quitting to begin with.
This sort of ties into your previous quote I have listed but let’s focus on it here.
“Knowing there was no content coming soon”: This can be presumed on any lack of announcement concerning content. I’ll give this to you.
“… and the game was going to be bad…”: Opinion. What you consider to be bad and what I, or anyone else considers to be bad, is just that. Our opinion.
“… and they wouldn’t be able to retain subs…”: Speculation. It is my guess you don’t have complete access to trending subs outside of what Blizzard releases publicly. Even if this were the case, Blizzard (as a company) is probably smart enough to realize that one item isn’t going to make up for the amount of presumed subs lost during the quarter. For all we know they could’ve been gauging numbers from this quarter last year and said “Hey. What can we do to get our numbers up from a year ago?” Again, all speculation (on both our parts). Nobody knows for sure except the company themselves.
At this point in time, I wouldn’t dispute it. It’d be unfortunate but not worth disputing or being upset over at this point in the game. Blizzard has obviously proven that “exclusivity” is no longer a determining factor in some of their decisions. If it is, it can be recalled or adjusted at any time. So with this thinking, if they chose to add transmog gear to the store (which they have already, by itself) - and it just happens to be the same gear from CM dungeons or the tower transmogs then so be it. The same principles would be applied there as well.
Sure - the people who earned them legitimately can be pissed off but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. Blizzard is in business to make money. At the end of the day, that is their goal. It’s the same goal for any business. If anyone tells you otherwise then they’re misinformed, at best, or delusional, at worse.
If Blizzard were to put some old mounts / transmog items on the store you can best bet there would be people to buy them. Perhaps they didn’t play when those expansions / content were out? Maybe they didn’t have a guild to get the achievements? Maybe they didn’t have the time to play. There’s a 100 different reasons as to why but all of that honestly doesn’t matter. You want that achievement mount from Naxx? $25. You want the transmog? $15.
Last point here. You want to know a secret? There are top guilds on almost every realm that sell achievement mount sales (and other things) for gold and real life money. Blizzard knows this. They even crack down on those who sell such things for RL money. Why wouldn’t they jump on that cash cow themselves? Why risk a sale on a guild when you can get it guaranteed from the Blizzard store? Am I OK with them doing this? . . . . Who cares if I’m OK? Who cares if you’re OK? The bottom line is making money and they will make any decision they can if they feel it’ll bring them more of it.
I got the Dreadwake after I had unsubscribed, because my last autopayment had been for 6 months’ time. I’m glad I got it, but I probably wouldn’t have actually shelled out for it otherwise, because I’m not that into mounts.
I have a friend who did. He no longer plays the game.
But seriously OP, this is a last year’s topic. Talk about dead horse stuff.
They just put the mount on their store about 2 hours ago (estimated). Several people were already complaining. While the 6 promotion is old, it’s relevant to today’s event. This thread is specifically relating to it going on sale today; not last year.
I was unsubbed for two months so I guess I saved money?
Too bad this expansion isn’t that great and I don’t have an ugly boat that don’t float.
I don’t like to support “new mount peddling” in whatever form they’re trying to do it.
It’s a lazy way to rake in money while giving a less than adequate product.
My only complain is that even with having more than 1 year of gametime(at that time closer to 2 years) they didn’t want to give the mount. Yes, that’s not giving a dime about your customers. Made a ticket for it and it felt like hearing from one of those bad telecoms company.
I kinda agree, that if this mount was given for free for pre buying game time in a bundle, I was hoping they would’ve “gifted” this mount too, for those who stayed subbed for that 6-month time frame also. I couldn’t afford to just whip up $70 dollar promotion to get in game time for that mount, and as a mount collector, would’ve just been nice to have for being loyal to the game. Oh well, guess wait for Christmas
sale and prices to go down.
