Just thought it might be neat to have a class with a wand as its primary weapon. We don’t really see wands anymore, and I think that’s sad—they’re super cool. It’d be fun to have a class that exclusively uses wands, and they’re required for their spellcasting. Like how a bow/gun/crossbow is required for BM/MM hunters, or daggers are required for subtlety/assassination rogues, etc.
I don’t really care what the class actually “is” (idk, maybe like a necromancer/witch-type class? idgaf really). I just think we could see some real cool unique animations/playstyles with a class like this, and it’d be a way to give some more love to a long-neglected weapon type.
If we were to see a wand-based class, what do you think it would be? A new class, or perhaps a complete redesign of an existing spec?

Necromancer would be nice. A wand-wielding necromancer reminds me of DAoC, so in my mind, it’d fit. Or if there was a sorcerer or theurgist class.

I’d really like to see wands and staves redone to channel caster spells. Also a new tome/book weapon.

As long as it gets people to stop talking about that tinker nonsense im all for it

I’m ambivalent to it.
The pros:
- Literally playing classic priest myself. This is our literal jam. Dot, MB, wand.
- Wands are cool and i really like the animation. I have Jaina’s fire wand and it throws fireballs
Cons:
-
I can basically promise wand fantasy alone is one you’d tire of. It would be ideal if all the 1h+ offhand got to basically act like wands if you so desire, would also fit with existing gearing better.
-
Scalability: fundamentally wands are just a weapon you attack stuff with. Battle mage or close ranged mage fantasy is one they ‘kinda’ went for with Evoker and while I like the idea I don’t they’ll visit for a long time.
Overall while I think it’s a cool concept I reckon it would ‘wear’ very quickly.
ooo wait that would pair really nicely with a wand weapon… that could be so cool. im imagining kind of like the paladin book animation but with your other hand holding your wand and casting. HMMM many thoughts

wands used to be a secondary weapon. maybe it could be cool to give a class specialization a ‘wand specialization’ talent like disc priests had once upon a time. but i doubt we’ll get something as niche as a wand class*
They would have to reverse the massive nerf they made to wands back in BC… and if they were ever going to do that it would have been during BfA when they practically shoved wands doen our throats on every caster… so long as wands have their attacks on the GCD they will be worthless…

I liked wands and wanding it was the delay in being able to cast none wand spells that was bad. Just make it so casting interrupts the wanding with no extra cast time.

So we talking Fairy Godmother wand stuff or Harry Porker wand stuff?
I agree wands feel very useless and clunky right now—I absolutely would see them having to rework them for this class, or at the very least design the class in a way where wands work differently for that class. Aesthetically wands are awesome, but practically they’re pretty useless. That’s why I’d like to see a class based around it, cuz it would force Blizz to make wands… not useless. I see them ideally working similarly to bows/guns/crossbows—a basic auto attack feature, but supplemented with abilities that use the weapon as well. Hopefully we’d get some more unique animations than the ones hunters currently have though… shudders.
Should make one mage class have some wand talents.

I do wish wands could be relevant again

I like the suggestions but we might as well wish for the pie in sky as have our wands or staffs used in the casting animation.
My scribe makes wands (maybe she makes offhands not sure) and no one has ever wanted one made. I used one for a while with mage. They seem like a great lil weap but get overlooked.
I think enchanters make wands too but same story.

My lock always gets in trouble with wands. Target then auto attack for no reason. ><

staff animation for auto attacks would be amazing
There’s scarce difference between a wand and a dagger or sword/mace. Wands give an autoattack filler, which is generally-speaking pointless because classes don’t autoattack like it’s classic where that is a substantial part of your rotation. There’s nothing wrong with using a wand with an offhand, but it’s not going to be better, and most people will tend towards 2h weapons, presumably for the easier itemization and crest costs. A class designed to use dual-wielding of a single weapon + offhand just feels more restricted on item drops.
I miss Wands, and I miss Thrown weapons.
Wands still exist, sure, but I rarely ever see them actually used.
The main purpose of wands is that you could still ‘auto attack’ from ranged when you were oom.
But since when does that happen anymore??
