I think there’s somehow a misconception here that I want wands to function the way they do right now… they are terrible right now, and I want them changed so they become relevant again. That’s all! I’d like to see a wand class or spec, with a complete wand rework/overhaul. Essentially, I imagine it would function like a bow/gun. No auto attack GCD, abilities that actually use the weapon itself for animations, etc.
I would like to see wands, staffs, etc. used more often in the spell animations.
I somehow imagined a dual-wielding, acrobatic wand shooter. The class jumps, flips, rolls around while rapidly shooting two wands between landings.
I miss when wands did actual significant damage.
Now they’re basically just stat sticks.
The problem that I see is that wands used to be an efficient way to deal damage for casters when mana expenditure was an issue. These days, that’s not an issue. It wouldn’t be a caster class really because why wouldn’t they just cast their spells instead of auto attacking? I think it would have to be something entirely new instead of a redesign for that reason.
I guess I just don’t see it working though since it would play like a ranged physical class like hunter, except they would have wand based abilities?
Plus they would have to revamp content drops if they were required to use wands. Warglaives are annoying drops as is since you can get them even if you don’t have a DH, but DH can also use other weapons. If this class was required to use wands for their abilities, that would limit their gearing pretty heavily.
If it functioned like hunter, they would do both! A wand auto-attack would be constantly going in the background while they’re also casting spells with the wand on top of that. Literally exactly like how a hunter has auto attacks going off in the background while also shooting aimed shots or steady shots etc with their weapon. Or like how all melee classes have auto attacks going off while they’re also using their actual abilities with those weapons. All “spells” would simply be cast with the wand instead of with the hands. Caster classes are really the only classes that don’t have an auto attack built into their gameplay, so I think it could be cool and unique to create a caster class that was weapon-based and therefore implemented auto attacks into their rotation.
It would require some thought put into it for sure, but I don’t think this is really an issue tbh. There are some classes who have a harder time getting the weapon they want than others, simply cuz they use a more unique weapon type that doesn’t drop as often, and that’s just kinda how it is. But I’m sure people at Blizz could figure out a simple way to ensure there’s some level of balance in drops.
You could play Classic! Priests and warlocks are wand based specs for most of their levelling journey.
Basically any Mage could be a wand wielder, though they could perhaps put a talent in the Mage talent tree that enhances wand damage if the magic used is the same.
The different wands (arcane, fire, frost) could be a something for Enchanters to make, and make wands more valuable (and more common) drops.
I’m not a fan of classic alas… not my cup of tea!! Besides, they don’t really doooo anything with their wands aside from auto attack from what I can tell The point of this is more to build wands into the spells themselves, not just have them be a weapon that provides stats for spellcasting!
Very true, i was just making a joke
Hahaha. Thank you, someone has the balls to say it. Tinker is so lame, you can add bard to the cringe list too
Some sort of dual wielding wand class with combos
Would be cool
