Wait, there's seriously no penalty for leaving a key?

So when one wastes 4 other peoples time…

Since that is the standard you put forward for punishing a key leaver…

Can I report people bad at mechanics and dps after a key if we failed it?

Nobody likes a quitter.

All these excuses for abuses being acceptable on one side, but on the other its completely unfair! Get’s tiring.

We know which side you’re on too.

Key leaving is the symptom, bad play is the disease. You should never treat the symptoms, you should treat the disease. So that said…what punishments do you recommend for not having kick on your bars, doing sub-tank damage, healers not properly preparing for damage spikes, or tanks not pulling more than one pack at a time?

Ummmm, okay?

Please describe how someone simply leaving a group of strangers can be classified as “abuse”

I just don’t see how you can square that circle even performing massive mental gymnastics, but you’re welcome to try I guess

I think I need to start leaving groups where the healer has unbound his dispel and let’s me sit in a blind or take 300% more dmg when he didn’t need to.

There is no way to implement a punishment that won’t be abused or have an negative effect on innocent people. It is what it is, reform and go again.

Acting like that would stop people from leaving? Nah. If I get a 30 min “deserter” debuff on 1 toon, I just go play a diff toon. I’d do the same with M+. One perk to playing many toons. I am not staying in a group where people keep dying to avoidable things, or having terrible damage etc. Some people don’t deserve to have their key finished.

Yea you are the center of the group and the main character of the game really. The healer should disregard everything going on around them at any given point in time to make sure you never sit in a cc that you yourself could’ve prevented

Unironically, yes, as the tank I am.

There are actual cases where yes, the healer literally does need to disregard everything and make sure the tank doesn’t sit with an unavoidable cc.

First boss in bracken last night is the reason for this post but there are lots of instances.

My point is I did stay, and the only reward I got was 10min more frustration before others started leaving further in the instance.

Are you seriously telling me you dont know the way dungeons work, in their various forms?

M+ is designed to be a player-organised group activity. If you find you are having trouble getting reliable people to join your keys you can:

  1. Get a group of reliable people together to do keys over time.
  2. Get players from a guild you are in that you can rely on.
  3. Participate in a community such as WowMadeEasy which is designed to assist in that sort of activity.

There are lots of options. You should investigage them.

I mean the punishment of time wasting is pretty big imo.

I do think key depletion should go away though not because of this specifically, just because key depletion is just extra punishment on top of the time wasting and lower rewards at end if you do finish the key. Will removing key depletion promote sweaty behavior of restarting keys until you get the first few pulls perfect? Sure, but who cares…if people want to do that let them do that. Wasted time is plenty big punishment without key depletion, hope they get rid of it at some point.

But it’s okay for leaver abuse to exist… ok.

No one is suggesting anything about being held hostage. People can leave anytime they want, but should also face a penalty if they’re going to make the key holder also face a penalty.

It’s a poor system as designed, Blizz can do better.

What does that hurt to retry?

Aside from bailing at the start of a heroic/normal/TW dungeon, you still get the 30 minute deserter.

As for OP, I cannot remember the last time I pugged people into my own key, I might join the odd random key here and there for mount stuff only, maybe I will run my own key with my guild, but mostly I just join whatever group my guild is asking for help with.

Pugging is such a nightmare I refuse to do it for anything serious and my guild knows it, we laugh when I complain on discord when I hear the pug sound.

I mean all queuable dungeons and lfr gives you deserter debuff of 30 minutes if you leave or are kicked, wouldn’t be crazy for this to be a thing for keys.

I say there is a punishment.

He still had to waste his time. Sure, he wastes four others time, but his time is wasted as well.

The domino effect is then I want to be able to report people and see them punished if they play badly.

If I join a key and I am going to be forced to complete it, regardless of the other people in the group…else I get punished for “wasting their time”…then I also want others punished for wasting my time.

Obviously, this is ridiculous. But it just shows why the issue is more complicated than it may initially appear. And why most ideas that people come up with, has a ripple effect of often making things worse.

lol if u dont get a debuff for leavin a group then remove the rdf debuff

I agree with you OP. RBGs similarly have no penalty when people ruin the match by throwing a fit. Seems like these things should be designed/moderated better, but this is blizz in 2024 we’re talking about; I don’t expect them to do it all correctly; they could but they won’t.
