If you are paying a subscription is it really free to have that mount in game?
Please keep white knighting buddy.
And I am not against the cash shop, I am more frustrated in the lack of content similar to mage tower and challenge modes. Granted this is a mount, I was merely suggesting ways it could have been introduced better.
Always get a chuckle when any disagreeing gets called white knighting, its a weak stance you have to retreat to.
There are already multiple secret and special method obtained items, pets, and mounts in just this expansion alone. Some of the most popular mounts in Legion were obtained through special events. There isnt a shortage of exactly what you want, you just want the fox, which came out at the same time a special method to get mount, that you claim to want more of, came out, fancy that.
Cash shops are entirely optional outside content, the sprinkles that cost extra, you dont have to buy it, but complaining you dont get it for free because you brought the ice cream is asinine.
This is apples to oranges, there are three mog items in the store from when it first opened, which is thousands of armor pieces ago and they are going away.
There is zero evidence that making a handful of store items has any impact on in game anything. Your assumptions may feel good but they dont hold water without evidence.
The mount isn’t that expensive. You can buy it with gold via tokens. On my server, the token was 124k gold. So for 248k gold, less than 5% what a Brutosaur costs, i got the Vulpine familiar AND the icy mask Tmog item.
What’s asinine is when you pay for a product and then they try and get you to pay for a whole bunch of extras. All this stuff should be in game.
As I said. Stop creating store mounts and spend more time making class armour sets. When there is extra purchasable content it is a quick and slippery slope to losing in game stuff.
Plenty of other games have slid down this slope. Plenty of evidence out there. Just because you keep your eyes closed and can’t realize history repeats itself doesn’t mean the rest of us do.
No, you are only being offered something, at no point are you being forced to get any of it. if you dont want to pay extra for the toppings then you can have your ice cream as it is without the topping, but the option is there if youd like to buy it.
“Plenty of other games” does not equal Blizzard. This a terrible “everyone is hitler” analogy, just because some games did it doesnt mean all games do it. You simply have no evidence.
2%, thats how much those 10 mounts equal out of the 477 mounts currently in game. If you think thats a slippery slope or even an incline at all then you must live in the flattest spot on the planet.
Your beef seems to be more about class armor sets coming back which I can even agree with, but those are separate issues and separate art teams so youre still barking up the wrong tree.
And it IS in game. The difference between the vulpine mount and the frog mount is next to nothing besides the vulpine mount is almost 100k gold cheaper.
I never said I had to buy it. That’s not the point. The point is I’m already paying for content. Instead of putting time into in game content they’re putting time/money into content they’re demanding more money for which is ridiculous for a subscription model. You think I’m going to pay a monthly fee for ice cream if they’re going to make pay for sprinkles or any new toppings that come out hell no. I’ll pay for toppings if I go an dbuy ice cream once and a while. Stupid anology anyways.
It’s not everyone is Hitler, it’s there have been horrible dictators in the past and there can and are again today because people ignore history. Let’s keep an eye on the freshly elected brazillian pm. He may not become a Hitler but he’s going to go the same way as all other dictators. Tons of MMOs and other games go free to play? Might be some signs to see. I’d consider the p2w a Hitler model and year those are less common and blizzard likely won’t get to that point.
2% at this point. Gaming as a whole though is moving in this direction and when people ask for more store mounts it just increases their incentive to go down this route.
Woah, this blew up. Glad to see so many people taking interest in this thread, by the way.
I’m mostly intrigued by how they came about pricing the mounts the way they have. Why $25? Some people have mentioned that if you don’t want it, don’t buy it, but could you use the same argument if the mounts were $500 or $1000? What value would be high enough to change your opinion?
If I missed a proper response, apologies. I mostly skimmed through.
There is no “instead of” its along with everything else they offer something extra. you still have nothing to show for it being a takeaway from anything.
You get everything you pay for in your subscription, not a single pixel has been left out of exactly what is advertised. Then, once you have exactly what you pay for, they offer some small, entirely optional, cosmetics on the side in case youd like to grab one. Its your own fault for thinking you are entitled to everything just because you pay a subscription. A sub lets you in the door as long as you want, have as much ice cream as you want, put the sprinkles are extra.
No one is making you pay for anything, again, entirely optional. You are free to stop paying for your sub if you dont like what is offered.
So what exactly is Blizzard doing thats “bad”? They have cosmetics in a store. They arent charging you more to play the game, they arent banning you because they dont like you. They literally put a mount in a store and youre saying they are going down a slippery slope into being a terrible company. Youre over blowing the situation because you feel something, not have proof of something.
Cash shops that only offer cosmetics are probably the least of all things to worry about when thinking a company is going bad. Now, if they start adding in things like mythic raid gear or special advantages over other players, then we have a whole other discussion and one I would likely agree with you on. But if youre saying every guy with a pinstripe mustache is going to be a dictator, then im going to laugh at you.
And by the time its 3% there will likely be over 50 to 100 other mounts in game. Dont ignore the other 98% and all the tons of work and effort and even lore that went into them just you want to be upset about a tiny fraction.
Its not bad behavior so I have nothing to worry about.
Ah, okay. I suppose that makes sense. Historically, were the mounts cheaper and then they raised the price (or the opposite), or have they always been $25?
Not how it used to be. Only is now because people like you want to spend additional money apparently. Still a bad analogy, nobody pays a subscription for ice cream you pay a sub for continuous content. Except now they want more money for more content on top of a sub. Not how a sub works, sorry that’s hard for you to grasp. Once again, how much purchasable stuff was in vanilla?
I’m saying they run the risk of getting greedy just like other companies. There is proof of it happening already. No class armour sets is a direct cut to in game cosmetics. Not sure how you cant see that.
Also the way they phrase their earnings call via time played metrics instead of older metrics. Money is more on their mind than ever. Quality used to be the driver. With Activision involved who knows what the tipping point will be. Even if they don’t have much influence now doesn’t mean they won’t if they don’t see enough profit. Lots of other examples in gaming of this.
Again man, warning signs are there, and just because you want to close your eyes and ignore them doesn’t mean the rest of us do. I’m playing because it’s not bad right now but I see the slope and I’m trying to not give them free passes.
