- Mounts have always been $25 on the store. The idea that this price or the inclusion of said mounts in the store as a response to sub numbers is ridiculous.
- The Dreadwake was planned to be released when it was for months beforehand. They didn’t just whip up the model and the animation overnight.
You have to keep in mind that the players that are still playing are likely the hard core, die hard fans of the franchise. And for many of them, they will buy all the mounts and pets from the store, either now at full price or later at half price in the holiday seasonal sale.
So they can continue to collect $15 from each of those players, or occasionally add something to the store and get an additional $10 or $25 from many or likely most of those players. Given the relatively low cost of developing and adding those pets and mounts to the game, the return on investment (ROI) is frankly, just insane. It’s pretty much like printing money.
I bet they have a bunch of economists that study those store sales and have determined what the optimal rate of adding new items to the store is to maximize the income stream from them, since flooding the store with new stuff like every week would likely backfire and lead many to just stop buying altogether. So making an addition every so often, and making some be charity items for a limited time after introduction, is the best way to milk the wow cow player herd for maximum milk/money production.
Given how the Activision side of Acti-Blizz didn’t exactly have a stellar year in 2018, they were no doubt looking hard to the Blizzard side of things, along with King, to make up for Activision’s failure to meet investor expectations last year. And what better way to give the bottom line a little boost that to whip up some fancy pixels and through it into the cash shop.

That would literally be a P2W feature, an in-game advantage for spending $$.
Imagine thinking that the team who creates mounts, in-game or shop bought, is the same team making all the content in the game, smh.
Save gold > buy tokens > add to blizzard balance.
You can now get the mount for free.
If you find $25 is “expensive”, you must be under the age of 25. Hell, I could probably collect $25 in aluminum cans from the side of the road on my way to work in about week.
I never understood the prices of these kinds of things. I just don’t see the value there… at all. Apparently others do though, because if people weren’t buying them the prices would be lower.
“Here we go again” were my thoughts exactly when I saw your post. I suppose you think the guy who increased the price of all those EpiPens was justified because “business, make money, reeeee”.
Hey, gotta pay for those huge salaries some how.

This mount is worth that price since it is an original.
Really gonna compare EpiPens to a cosmetic optional purchase in a video game? You’re going to fit in just fine here in GD.
Imagine the designers of the cash shop mount going to the in game designer and saying: " remember the venomhide ravasaur? Any chance you guys can make something just as interesting to keep players interested IN the game?
They have periodic releases of mounts on the store. It’s been a thing since the first one. They’re likely planned out significant amounts of time in advance based on the art direction for the expansion in which they’ll be released (I got nothing on sparkle pony–that one’s just… ummm).
They literally hired additional graphic artists solely for store mounts. Because we apparently want them. We certainly tell them that every time they release one.
Y’know? People would be far better off talking about things they’d like to see in the game than scraping around trying to complain about everything and anything they can. Because store mounts? Don’t communicate what you want. Unless you want more store mounts. In which case, go for it.
Where does this moronic “If I dont like it, nobody should” mindset come from?
From within.
Its gotta be a scared little lonely place in there then.
sigh Yeah.
Your post is based upon conjecture, and opinion, just saying. Based upon the quarterly reports, there are more active players than th umber two(2), which is FFXIV.
Well if you cant keep the server up and you have a sub fee maybe its time to re-work the whole game.
Not sure what state you in. I like to move there. that a ton of cans. Just found it funny. In retrospective that 4 hours of minimum wage workers here or if a waiter it 22 hours of work. Tips are bad here in this small town. cannot keep them.
Well duh. Of course they are. Once the mandate for a new store mount comes down from on high, all of the WiW team stop what they are doing and focus solely on the that for at least three months.
If it weren’t for these occasional store mounts we’d have new content patches out every two weeks.
This is how businesses work. Smh
