They’re probably just afraid of being assotiated with the fandom, as it still catches a lot of flak in other nerd cultures and in the media at large.
Secretly though I think they’ve just realized that vulpera are basicly fennecs, and are rightly afraid of the small balls of bitey soul staring anger that are the little desert foxes. And with those ears we’ll hear them everywhere!
I can absolutely understand a person who got a negative view of the fandom and doesn't want to associate with people from said fandom. (I may think that's closed minded but at least it's something I understand) The thing that confuses me though is that if they themselves like beast races enough to play one while not associating with that fandom then they should understand that not everyone who likes a different beast race would be part of that fandom and negatively judge the new beast race on principle.
I hope people get what makes them happy, and if Vulpera makes this many people happy, go for it.
The thing I personally dislike about the beast races how artists make them "look female" by adding hips and boobs. To my eye it just looks silly - animals in general don't have outwardly sexual traits. I would be far more inclined to play a Pandaren or a Worgen female if they didn't look like they'd had human sex characteristics slapped on them so we all know it's a female.
I'd love to see beast races where it's actually hard to tell. Like real beasts.

Eh, there has to be some differentiation, especially as these aren't literal animals, but upright evolved fox people.

...I cannot remember what this thing is, but there IS a beast race out there in some form of fiction that is exactly what you're looking for.
All I remember is they're a big beastly cat race, and some members of the development team wanted the female cats to have boobs and the other members wanted them to be exactly what you're describing. Eventually, the ultimatum was put forth "If the females have boobs, they're going to have eight boobs like real cats. It's up to you, none or eight."
They went with none.
Edit: After conferring with my fellows in the hype Caravan, I believe I was talking about the Charr from Guild Wars

The reason humans have 'breasts' and wide hips is because of our large heads, and our upright stature, at least in part.
Seeing as the beast races of WoW, at least, mirror these traits, it makes sense for them to have breasts. After all, they have an upright stature and large heads.

Actually, now that you mention it, you are 100% right that any bipedal race with big brains (and big heads) would have females with large hips. I genuinely never considered that but... yeah. That is a thing that would happen through natural selection to accommodate those features of humanoid races.
As for breasts though, that's... just a quirk of human evolution. I'm not going to give a lesson in history/evolution/sex ed but it's entirely possible that any beast race not related to humans wouldn't have them. So it's entirely on whether the designing artist wants them
Werewolves and minotaur =/= Zootopia anthropomorphic fox people.
Why?
Because werewolves and minotaur have "existed" (for lack of a better term) for hundreds of years, and their inclusion in a high fantasy atmosphere makes sense. They weren't added specifically because THEYRESOCUTEOMG like people are hoping for the stupid Zootopia foxes.

My friend, you need to learn about the mythical Kitsune.
Allow me to share: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitsune

I may not agree, but I'll give you points for actually articulating a valid opinion (if with a bit of sass) that helps me understand why these might be seen as different aesthetics
To reference a rebuttal on the front page though: WoW is not, and never has been, exclusively high fantasy. WoW takes inspiration from a lot of genres, some of which are high fantasy (Like Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons) but you don't have to look far to see inspiration from many other sources. The old gods are inspired by the horror works of Lovecraft, the goblins and gnomes follow a steampunk aesthetic, the draenei are more sci fi than anything else. They borrow from mythologies of religions both modern and ancient from places all around the planet, and sometimes, just sometimes, they make something up from scratch. Anything is fair game as long as it is adapted to the greater world.
With that said, the Vulpera may share a body shape and proportion to your favourite disney movie, but their aesthetic is not out of place in the world of warcraft. They do not wear Hawaiian shirts or have designs outside of the guidelines of warcraft aesthetics. They have had lore written into the actual game. They are as much at home in the game as anything else.
I also feel obligated to point out that Warcraft has never been 100% serious. For every bloody genocide, there is a poop collecting quest to lighten the mood. Vulpera can be a little more lighthearted flair in an expansion as dark as BFA

They aren’t the only once though. Human mythology is absolutely rife with creatures and beings that blend the traits of humans and animals. Sure you have the werewolves blues legends originated in German and Russian areas, but you have the silke from the British areas, the cat shifters from down in Africa, the kids soon from Japan, Native American legends are filled with people who take animal form For good and evil reasons. Top it all off with the entire Egyptian pantheon. We’ve been imagining beast races pretty much since we’ve been a race.
Also, most of our view on how elves and dwarves and gnomes work, are based off Tolkien. The older legends of them are much different as members of fae races.

Hm...do you think that their vulture mount will be attainable?
Also...cant wait for a vicious hyena mount.
I was about to say it's a reputation reward but after looking it up... it is not. The hyena is though.
It probably will be, perhaps as the quest reward for unlocking them as an allied race. But they might also hold off on flying mounts until pathfinder becomes available.
I mean, the vulture is kind of the same as the Highmountain Eagle. It is used a lot by NPCs, but not attainable. I hope we eventually get it...alongside that eagle for my Highmountain to ride into battle.
And by Vicious Hyena, I meant like the heavily armored, vicious saddle type mounts. If added to the game, Vulpera would likely eventually get one, and their only land mount seems to be the Hyena...I love the vicious mounts. They are perfect for war role-play, and are actually the only reason I started PvP.
