Correct. Playing a beast race on a game does not make you automatically a furry. If that sort of thing were true, anyone who has ever played a Sonic the Hedgehog game would be a furry? Itās not that simple.

Rolling a vulpera next Tuesday. Does that make me a furry? Does it not? I guess it depends on who you ask, but I really donāt care either way. Iām going to roll my foxy warlock, equip my heirloom gear, queue for random dungeon, and start dropping felfire mayhem on night elf npcs via Ashenvale questing while I wait for it to pop.

Furry is just an opt-in title and a community. Youāre a furry only if you want to be a furry and you want to interact with other furries.
If you just think vulpera are cool, that is absolutely enough to label yourself a furry if you want. But you donāt have to, itās up to you.

I am not a member of Furry Fandom, itās just not my thing. However this is a āHigh Fantasyā RPG, so playable anthropomorphic animal races totally fit within the genre.
I know all about the antics at some Furry conventions, thatās nothing.
I participated in trade shows in Vegas and you get some liquored up businessmen, youāre lucky to avoid witnessing a live reenactment of the palace of Jabba the Hut.

Iāve been debating all day whether to confirm this but since thereās only a week until Vulpera release anyway, and Iām sure most people suspect it anywayā¦ I am a furry.
I donāt have any ulterior motivation for wanting Vulpera though. I just think theyāre awesome and cute and they make me happy.

Self identified furry here as well. Been involved in the fandom since the 90s, and I love your observation of it being an āopt-inā title. Thereās way too much variety within the fandom (especially nowadays) to make any assumptions about anyone based on that label. It seems like the only defining characteristic is a sense of community that comes from interacting with people who share a similar interest.

My fondness for athro races in fantasy started with that sweet, sweet +4 Strength, +2 Constitution, +1 Natural Armor for gnolls back in D&D 3.5. For a mere +1 level adjustment. Iāve been smitten ever since.
Then in D&D 5e, we got Tabaxi with their climb speed, Lizardfolk with their ability to make equipment out of corpses, and Kobolds with their bonus for cowering. Anthro races just have the most flavorful and fun special abilities. I canāt get enough.

I like beast races because they are so different from myself and what I am. Rarely do I RP as elves and especially humans in fantasy settings because they look a little too much like what I am in real life, and thatās just plain boring to me.
I will never be able to be a werewolf or a giant moose man in real life, nor do I want to be those things in real life. But I play games and RP to escape my real life. So I might as well have fun and be different, right?

I have my favorite classes level capped on both factions and am kind of having a mini crisis rn. The Alliance donāt have Zandalari or HM Tauren, but they have LF Draenei and fixed eye glowsā¦ I prefer taller races, but the Vulpera fits my hunter better Hordeside than Nightborne. Basically I really like both and arrrrgh
