All in all what we know is the following: Bli$$ard needs to make a massive FAQ Book that answers all these questions so we can call it quits since the Chronicles didnt manage that (aside from it that the Chronicles arent to be taken as hard evidence either given the author of that book is a titan)
I think some important points worth mentioning is what makes them a ârace,â and clarifying our definitions and applying them equally across the board.
We canât say that one magical influence makes something a different race on the one hand, then state the other does not with certainty.
Phenotypical expressions are not Genome (DNA) related per se. So if someone has blue, brown, or even green eyes, that wouldnât make someone part of a âRace.â Arguably having 20 different physical characteristics doesnât make them a âRace.â
Iâm willing to hear out reasonable explanations but Blond is just not having any of that, its projecting desired outcomes more than it is based on deductive sentiments.
IF magic is enough to justify race, then why are demon hunters forced into BE/NE?
Why can void elves be priests if âholy magicâ would kill them?
There are a lot of nuances here that are being swept under the rug in favor of desired outcomes.
Fiction doesnât necessarily mean logic goes out the window. It implies that their reality is not true to RL, and it is based in mythological scenarios. But there is still reason applied to it. Orcs that drank mannoroths blood were physically transformed. They were still orcs. High elves were transformed by the sunwell, they are still elves by definition, but the definition derives from their favoring of certain types of magic, not necessarily that they are different. Now it is true that genetic changes can occur due to isolation over time, which was true for high elves over thousands of years. But theyâre still part of the same family tree, theyâre not that different. It is why Humans in RL still share DNA with Chimps to a massive extent. But it is also why phenotypes are a bad metric for determining a race, it is superficial at best.
Weâre honestly one or two more expansions away from Blizzard blowing the door on the cosmological forces and their interactions.
If you take anything away from Shadowlands itâs that all of our known forces derive from a higher power and are controlled fairly easily by it, to the point that each force has a robot-factory.
In other words, the rules are flimsy, iâm sure Blizzard not only sees this but is heading that direction, otherwise they wouldnât have the future foundation to make a bold statement as âall classes for all racesâ.
I would love to see Blizzard come out with a book like that. Explain things like biology and reproduction concepts and any other pertinent information one might want to know about the races. Would really help to answer some questions for both just general fun and like⌠fanfic stories and things.
I prefer to think of it as less Flimsy and more that our own (Azerothâs races I mean) dogma on the powers has always been a might bit flawed. We see that as time goes on weâre finding things are not as they seem.
Agreed.
The most overlooked point is the fact almost every elf was modified by a well of some form.
Moon well (well of eternity), Night well, sun well, etc.
All of a sudden an elf modified by Fel is no longer a âNE/BEâ, and void elves are no longer high elves.
Its a pretty big leap to suggest that the uniqueness itself changed them despite looking almost identical.
Due to High elf isolation and environment they became much shorter than their predecessors (Night elves) who are as tall and lanky like their predecessors (trolls).
Then you have Cenarius who is a demigod.
They all share a reliance on some form of magic.
Iâm not sure how this connection is lost, or why physical/phenotypical expressions can outright make someone believe the differences are so great that it makes them separate.
The only differences I could indulge at this point is their affinity for certain types of magic.
Then you have Satyrs who were literally once Night elves and are different in almost every respect. But I wouldnât go so far to say a Void elf is like a Satyr.
We also donât hold the same standard for Worgens despite being cursed but still human.
The cosmic forces were created by the first ones is what you mean. At least this is what we were told.
However its already pretty blown out of the door because of Azeroth and ultimately the player. The cosmic pantheons arent equal in strength that we already know (i mean none of the pantheon of death comes even close to our pantheon. This includes the Jailer) and all of the Pantheon are afraid like mad of the Void Lords (who are most likely the Pantheon of the Void).
And then you have Azeroth who is said to wipe the floor with every single Void Lord the moment she awakens. Sargeras himself wet his pants when he saw her during the War of the Ancients and she looked at him with one eye. This puts Azeroth god knows how far above every single Pantheon member.
Then you have the Void who can see every possible timeline and as such cant be tricked by the Nathrezim (as theyâve stated themself) but go along with it because everything âis the true pathâ. And the Void called us the âmovers of fateâ during the Brawler Campaign. Meaning they cant see our Fate and Fate ultimately answers to us and us alone. Which supports (Warning: This is headcannon and not actual lore) my claim that NâZoth was plotting something. Having betrayed the Void Lords a while ago ever since we came into play. Or the races of Azeroth as a whole.
And that we players arent normal should be very clear by now from a lore point of view given we play punching ball with cosmic threats and are capable of corpse running in the lore.
The First Ones are ultimately Blizzards ânext big evil that has to be stoppedâ. Probably under the mantle of âthey arent evil, but not good. They are greyâ since they already pulled that with the Void Lords when Sargeras was imminent and the Void Lords will soon perish as well (probably after DF or the xpac after. Depending whether we invade the light or the void first. Ultimately we are at war with both forces currently).
Im less inclined about fanfics but more about cold hard facts. Blame the german in me. And then i will proceed to rage about every single mistake they do in that book.
German and Scottish (actual German nationality though).
German and British. So i have the emotions of a german but drink the tea like a brit.
Green tea is a personal favorite of mine, and I drink espressos, so a bit of both.
I mean using an actual lore book to better write fanfic lore to match. Like writing stories right now about a void elf getting pregnant for instance. We wouldnât know what the result would be because one its just not been long enough in any case and two there is no lore to govern that. Bad example really but theres all sorts of such things.
Like just how any of the races view and operate with marriage and ceremonies is kinda all just vague if it exists at all.
Just things I see in fanfics a lot that arenât really governed by any lore. It would be nice to see something more concrete to work off of.
Well, Rexxar, Halforcen, and other characters might assist in that regard.

We know marriage exists between Elfs at least. Given two certain elfs recently.
Orcs for example dont marry. They just have âmatesâ.
Humans most likely have marriage as well.
Thats about all i know. Im not particularly interested in this part of the lore however.
Its not about those specifically. Itâd just be nice to have the concrete lore on biology and culture for the races as a whole to work off of for stories is all I mean.
haha yeah I know what you meant, I was just saying there might be a reference there worth mentioning. There is so much interspecies intermingling in the game.
Once again, that is not being infused with the light. And even in Arthas book, he is not infused with the light.
Arthas: Rise of the Lich King (Part 1: Chapter 5):
- âIn the Light, we gather to empower our brother.â
- & 3) are similar to the 2) & 3) from above
- âSweat broke out on Arthasâs brow. What was going wrong? Why wasnât the Light wrapping itself around him in blessing and benediction?â
The rest of the book makes a point that the light flows through him or heâs channeling it etc. Same as priests.
- Chapter 8 ⌠âMaybe if he focused on fighting, on learning how to accept, and channel and direct the Light, he could get the hell over her. Over the girl he himself had broken up withâ
I donât think he cares about the facts regarding this topic.
embracing light and shadow is a priests thing.
Paladins only embrace the light.
And besides, void elf racials are only for casters.
Would love it. Would also love a void shield on shadow priest
Grinds my gears they made halo have a shadow version but didnât do it for spriest flash healâŚ
Could have just let us keep our shadow mendâŚ
