Voice Chat needs to be turned on by default, for more socialization

Some of the most social games on earth are equipped with a secret weapon of sorts. Don’t believe me? Think proximity is a bad idea or won’t work? Listen on and I’ll tell you everything…

  1. What do other successful social games do?
Typing in “most social multiplayer games” on google, the list of the top result follows as such:

Sea of Thieves :white_check_mark: ← Voice Chat (Prox, Team, Guild)
Planetside 2 :white_check_mark:
GTA Online :white_check_mark:
Roblox :white_check_mark:
and lastly…
FPSes like cod/valorant/cs:go :white_check_mark:

This doesn’t even cover but a tiny selection of popular games as examples. All of these games have tea, party or proximity voice chat for Roleplay, Callouts, and general small talk.
Do some people use it to troll? Yes, of course, just like people use chat to troll. That’s why mute, ignore and report function shall exist.

  1. Why is proximity voice worth it?
You’ve probably seen a lot of posts decrying Classic’s poor state of socialization. The truth being, typing is a roadblock because it requires to stop playing the game to chat.
Voice Chat will allow seamless callouts, help casuals on their first time running content and increase multitasking and thus create a more smooth experience overall.

  2. Defanging toxicity and spam:
Put an option in the settings called “Voice Chat” that you press it to turn off voice chat on all your characters. On top of that, ensure the /ignore function works to block voice chat.

  3. Doesn’t WoW already have voice chat?
I honestly, don’t know if classic has voice chat, because that’s exactly how memorable their system is. I’ve already proven other games do socialization better with it, so I think it’s time for an overhaul.
    Problem solved.

Ew, untrained human voices are disgusting. Even raid leader is a stretch

Practice makes perfect. Best to put voice chat on by default and get vocal XP.

no, i don’t think i will.

WoW does have voice chat. Most players gravitate toward 3rd party solutions… First, it was Ventrilo and Teamspeak. Now it’s Discord.

You’re reason I made Point 3. Aren’t I gracious?

Nobody uses it because it’s terrible, not because people prefer something else. People will always tend to use in-game voice functions if they exist. It’s just a matter of them not existing, or not being quality.

You seem well meaning, but this is a horrible idea.

Blizzard doesn’t even come close to doing enough to police chat from spammers and trolls, and there are logs.

I believe 99.9% of the player base would turn this feature within moments of realizing it was released and then never look back.

Nah it’s low quality just like what blizzard has been releasing the last 10 years

Why should they bother? Folks are more likely to keep using their 3rd party applications. Besides, if more people used it, Blizzard would probably have to police it somehow.

No hate, I don’t want to listen to or speak to randos

Proximity voice chat would be hilarious in BGs.

I can tell, don’t worry.

That’s the idea.

Shanxi singlehandedly making limits on how many active threads you can have sound like a good idea lol

I can only see 2 of my threads near the top unless I scroll far down so I’m not sure what you mean. Besides, focus on voice chat.
