well theres two ways to keep layer abuse down to a dullroar.

the other two options instead of locked layers:

• combat debuff. you receive a debuff from combat of any kind (pvp, pve) that starts immediately upon combat entry and lasts for 5 minutes after combat ends, that doesnt allow you to layer hop till it expires. and you must be in an inn or city before hopping.
  this solves for people trying to escape pvp and pve consequences.

• looting debuff. if you’ve hopped to a new layer, you can only loot quest objectives till you’ve been on the new layer for 15 minutes. and you must be in an inn or city before hopping.
  this solves for people trying to exploit resources of various kinds.

OMG, seriously, you honestly believe they’re going to take the time to go to a new layer and HOPE that there’s conveniently an ore right there, rather than run forward for 10 seconds and see another dot for ore pop up on their map? You guys are so desperate to find an exploit to it that you’re going to extremes that are just incredibly inefficient.

Expand that to the first 6 months. We had so many queues and server crashes people seriously thought the game would fold.

haha. Oh my god. This response is so off. I do not remember in mid 2005 that people were talking about the game folding. You, Grudio et al, that exist just to troll vanilla players take the cake. You guys accuse people of being drama queens yet talk like 2004/2005 was a horrid experience you never want to live through again. I don’t believe you played during this time give your above response. If you did you’re just trolling at this point.

Vanilla was such a horrible experience, that I played WoW for four years straight.
