How many new players do you think are flocking to a soon to be 20 year old game for PvP?
It’s 2024, no new players are interested in a competitive PvP game that requires days/weeks of gearing, a CS degree for add-ons, and the hurdle that is finding a dedicated team.
Other than the cutting edge of players, most people want to login day one, join solo queue, and play.
MMORPGS are not getting a renewed wave of interest any time soon. WoW PvP will always be the same salty boomers until the day the servers die.
See, now this I can appreciate. This is thought provoking, not insulting, and pretty much true. It’s wild you have to wade through the cesspool to have a civil conversation when we’ve all played the game since vanilla (mostly).
Gearing has never been easier in PvP but Blizzard has to move from a rating method OR keep the rating method & implement a battle pass/participation method. That is the only way I can think of that will put the game and this game mode back on the map.
LFG was GREAT when it came out but LFG in a rated method is just pure toxic. People leave instantly if you lose a game, or leave mid key if the group wipes once in m+. I realize Rome wasn’t built in a day but I would imagine they have some cool things planned for TWW.
At this point, making PvP players happy who happen to have 10+ years experience in rated WoW PvP is just not worth the labor, energy, or stress. We need to appeal to the rest of the population.
Trexx, Pokémons, every season two boomy, for a very incomplete list. I’ll respond further in a bit but it wasn’t a shot at any individual. I think we’ve all had the experience of seeing the same person in a few shuffles who isn’t using any utility and only ccs to try and make kiting stop.
edit: nah i have nothing to add, appreciate the context for LoL. ele was/is an outlier in terms of reward for outright botting, but i’d contend that the reason people don’t fully bot on specs that are similar in terms of rewarding target dummy play is just that the movement is more complicated to automate. we’ve all seen that video of a robot warrior on blade’s edge spinning around because it thinks it’s standing on someone who actually occupies a different floor
My point is that that-exclusively vomiting damage playing exactly the same way against 3 enemy players and with 2 allied players as you would against a quest mob programmed to run around in random patterns-being an effective way to shuffle, fits my definition for a solved game. i couldn’t tell you where the line “should” be past which players “should” be playing less robotically, but “eligible for every reward except, maybe, on some specs, the r1 title” is not it
they need to rework the honor level system, has so much potential but they havent done anything with it. maybe make a rated content based level system idk
they also need to remove the combatant II, challenger II, rival II… wasted achievements as these were added in SL to help with upgrading gear, but that no longer matters in pvp as the upgrades only effect pve ilvl. who thinks upgrading pvp gear for pve content is meaningful? honor is now a wasted resource because now we need pve currencies to upgrade gear even if we decided to do so lol. this seemed like such a dumb change considering pvers dont wanna have to pvp for gear so why put pvp gear on a pve upgrade track?
and they need to make it more accessible… I have 4 IRL friends who play wow and primarily raid, and they dont pvp til much later in the season because they have to pick pve loot from vault, use sockets on pve gear and use crafting charges on pve gear. im sure theres a lot of pvers that dont touch pvp for these reasons.
but i dont think they need to add more rewards, they need to balance pvp and make it more fun to play. i would love to get a glad mount every season, but that has nothing to do with why i pvp, i pvp to kill ppl and have fun. but the game just feels worse and worse every season. ai specs like demo/bm/rdruid (with treants) are annoying to fight, comps that can leverage every DR is insane, melee with instant aoe CC and tons of damage/uptime, hybrid specs that can just off heal with no penalty but still do the most CC and dam, even if they’re the kill target. pvp just feels bizarre. cant imagine what its like for a new player or someone from a pve standpoint wanting to test the waters.
Its probs a combo or both. I completely relate to the point but in reverse. I like to get ksm most seasons but wait till all my pvp gear is fully gemmed. This , alongside giving myself time to push achis to upgrade gear.
This is exactly my point. We need a system that encourages play throughout. A gladiator should be able to play gladiator games within the first month of thr season. Rather multiglads are now typically playing at 2100+.
Not making another post but rather i’ll add this as a reply. This video posted by venruki is along the same themes of the OP. Thought id add it here for those interested.
