I’m not normally one to parrot out what r1 YT/streamers are putting out there, but this one just really resonates. The first 7 minutes of this video, Venruki perfectly articulates what is going on this season and why the caps on MMR have demotivated people to queue and killed every single bracket.

No one is motivated to repeatedly queue in this type of MMR environment.
The only people making this argument simply want to gatekeep cosmetics away from players they see as “less deserving”. I understand where the sentiment comes from, I’m not sure if it’s what is best for the game though. I find the amount of stock people put into in-game pixels to be worrisome, but live and let live I suppose.
In a month or so this doesn’t really matter anymore though. Early season of DF 1 was like this too, but much less players knew just how inflated it would become.
Excuse me, I said that a large reason why shuffle was popular was because the rating was free and that’d likely be changing in s2 to be more in line with the other brackets.
I imagine that was just kind of a preventative measure after last season where people were like 3k mmr after two weeks or something. There’s a chance they loosen stuff up soon, and that’d be fine.
its the most reasonable thing. if people want to gate keep their glad mounts in 3s thats fine. but shuffle doesn’t even give glad. no reason to kill that game mode for no reason.
Okay, I think something is being lost here. Shuffle is more of less the same, its mmr gain is just more in line with other brackets. What you’re saying is that the mode was only played because it force fed people rewards, which is also what I had been saying.
Well, it was at least a very significant contributing factor to its popularity, and siphoned a lot of people away from 2s and 3s just because it was literally all the same rewards but much easier (aside from glad/r1).
Same guy spent all of last season crying about how inflated the RSS ladder was. I know he’s an OG R1 player but he’s absolutely insufferable. I can’t believe he has viewers.
