Velma megathread

You would be wrong, and you probably never saw the film.

You totally ignored what I said.

Maybe, but with you people, banning and burning books is always a start.

Tell that to media marketing. Check the ages of some of the models for Vogue and those magazines. Sex sells, rule number one in ad agencies.

Yeah, it’s really just people hate watching at this point. Most only watch the first couple of episodes and then stop.

Are you actually serious right now? You’re comparing my desire to end explicit sexualization of minors to book burning like they’re comparable in any way shape or form? Is this really the hill you want to die on?

So because it makes money that means its okay? What a miserable morally-bankrupt hot take.

Wow. This didn’t even ping on my radar. I guess my AMKF (anti-Mindy-Kaling-Field patent pending all rights reserved) is working after all.

I just watched episodes 1-4 and its kinda good. And kinda bad.

Like if they removed all the race and gender jokes from it, it would be pretty okay.

Although if im honest, im basically only watching for fred and daphne at this point.
Velma isnt all that likeable and norville or whatever shaggy is called, is pretty bland.

Not the worst show ever made by a long shot.
If you remove the scooby doo branding, youd have a normal forgettable show.

WB bros canceled Scooby 2 for this?

Norville is Shaggy’s real name.

If they removed Mindy Kaling from it the show might stand a chance at maybe being not bad.

yeah, and the Maw would fill full of Sunshine and Rainbows.

Even in my 50s, I will still watch Scooby Doo when i see its on.
Wont even bother with Velma.

No more self-inserting or your own avatar into a character that is already recognizable worse in any result like Kirito from SaO anime and Shinji in Evangelion, or the DMC: DEvil May cry disaster Dante new look.

It is the old problem of actors, producers and designers in making their Adam West syndrome.

there was already a Batman, everyone wants to be it for the end, they are only pure West in a clown suit instead of being the hero or the character we love so much to see something that I know with Battison in The Batman, it’s the same thing, only without clowns, without Robin and with some more Woke that Guillermo del Toro hides in Pinocchio.

You’ve seen the example between Henry Canvill as Superman and Andrew Garfield as Spiderman, it doesn’t matter when they failed, they were the superhero either for the comic or for the animated series (mostly from the 90s) which we will not know as James Gunn. It will happen with the fate of the most recognized superhero in DC and a Tom Holland who is a self-inserted version of Stan Lee when he was young when in the end the superhero he has is nothing and people appreciate him because the production companies know that a Most of them are very ignorant in the world of comics, and they only prefer to see what is in the movies.

And we move on to Mindy Kaling, I don’t know if she learned anything in the Office, but it’s really being comedy, or a tantrum of herself that didn’t give something away as a child.

Apart from another Indian comedian who makes his country look bad and ridiculous in actors from this country like the stupid one who banned Apu like Hari Kondabolu who shows that he wishes they only stayed in making these ridiculous movies like 1987 with dance and all that.

That is why Velma failed, insults the public, it is a waste of time, it attracts only because of its controversy, and it did not last in 2 episodes of lousy narrative, it is so much :poop::poop::poop::poop: that I would cover your toilet and not with a plumber I would fix it, and if it came to waters would contaminate the entire planet as Homer did to Springfield.

To top it off, he makes an audience look bad that would go for nudity, misuse of 4th wall, and only insult that characters did the opposite like Fred and his :eggplant:, unlike he gave ideas to catch scammers.

Ah… if you want a series that fails, put the classic USA highschool plot where they always talk about the losers vs the popular ones, classic, as if Japan already has me fed up with highschool girls plot in anime.

That is why there are so many, but so many bad things that it doesn’t matter if you defend it, you will find one thing or another that is worse than the previous one.

It’s like Mindy had an idea for a different show and someone said, “hey, lets do this as a Scooby Doo re-boot!”

Some one need to tell these people, ideas are great, but not all of them are good. The backers should have said, let’s think about this…

It isn’t good and now it gives Anti-SJWs, Right-wing reactionary Youtubers an excuses to pretend they hate the show because its bad and not because the fact both Velma and Shaggy are PoC.

So basically you’re agreeing with Mindy about “If you don’t like my show, you’re a racist”? It has nothing to do with race swapping, and everything to do with crap writing.

Are you referring to what Sarîa wrote? If so, that’s not quite how I understood it. After all, she did say the show wasn’t good.

We now have this weird situation in entertainment where showrunners can pre-emptively declare critics “racist” and thereby instantly polarize any commentary. At that point, both “sides” will then use any trick they can think of to push their point, and the combined noise will effectively drown out anyone who doesn’t take a “side”.

Once the first RoP trailer was released, I found that any critical comment I made caused two reactions:

  1. People insinuated (and sometimes said outright) that I must be racist. The two times I asked how anything I said was racist, the answer I got was of the form “I dunno - you just seem like the type.” (Side note - I stayed well away from the topics of diversity and representation precisely because they were so polarizing.)
  2. Two of my comments that actually gained some momentum did so because people on the “right” rallied to it (apparently just because the comments were critical) and utlimately turned the threads into rants about Biden’s alleged Communist conspiracies. The second time that happened, I killed the threads and pretty much gave up.

I’m at the point now where if a show’s advertising makes a big deal about anything besides story, plot, action, or even famous actors, I just never watch the show. I deliberatedly avoided any “fluff” about Wednesday for that reason - I wanted to watch it without getting drawn into some nonsensical manufactured controversy.

Case in point, people don’t even need (or have) a reason to call others racists.

I mean, Mindy completely dropped a steamer on the Scooby Doo franchise. Only the most hardcore of simps and the mentally disturbed would defend this tragedy of a show.

With a 5% audience score and a sub 50% critics score (critics can so be paid off), I’m sure 95% of viewers are super racist and homophobic/transphobic/xenophobic/panphobic/biphobic/furryphobic/etc…

On the other side of the coin, people also don’t need a reason to get all QAnon in response to an actual, verifiable, and decidely non-political Tolkien quote, but that’s what happened in my case.

My point is that both “sides” (and I put that in quotes for a reason) have a hefty vocal contingent of people who will gladly take any opportunity, no matter how small (or non-existent), to “beat” the opposition (again, note quotes) - and they have a silencing effect on people who just want to talk more objectively about the merits and problems of a piece of entertainment.

That said, I’ll never watch Velma, for reasons that are mostly subjective. I never liked Mindy Kaling, even from her days on “The Office.” She’s got that annoying school friend-of-a-friend vibe where you breathe a sigh of relief when she finally says “Well, anyway, I have to go, TTYL!” I have no desire at all to see her in action as that friend-of-a-friend.

No what im saying is, the fact that the show isnt good gives certain types of people a chance to hide their true reasons why they hated the show in the first place.

Velma being Indian and Shaggy being black was always going to their main reason to hate the show. The show being not funny and the characters being horribly characterized is just a bonus to them. And they will do their usual “this is what happens when Hollywood goes “woke” garbage”

One good example is how the internet
dorks were outraged how simply because Ariel in the live action Little Mermaid is going to be black yet the movie isnt even out yet. And if the movie turns out to be bad it will give them an out.

I am not on Mindy’s side on this.
