Varian Wrynn

Yeah, yeah, Fel magic, blah, blah, blah…

Does anyone know if Varian’s soul is canonicaly destroyed? If so, can you provide a source?

TY in advance.

Nope nothing. Guldain do a too good of job.

I feel like our characters are bad at killing. Now that I know perma kill tech is out there, no idea why we just temp kill all the baddies. What we should really be doing is destroying their souls.

Fel consumes souls. So since we didn’t see him in SL that means his soul was destroyed. :dracthyr_nod:

(And that seen with him and Saurfang helping Anduin was just a shared dillusion.)

As far as I am aware, no Blizzard employee has ever said one way or the other that his soul was destroyed.

Most people will tell you that Gul’dan did indeed use Warlock power to destroy him and to do so utterly, down to the soul level.

Me, I like to imagine Gul’dan stored his soul in a Soul Shard (which Warlocks do) for potential later use and when he died, Varian’s soul was released to the afterlife.

We can assume that it is. Fel magic in the lore (unless they freaking retcon it) destroys everything it corrupts. It destroys you physically, mentally, and will eventually destroy your soul.

I appreciate all the replies. Thanks

So, I’m guessing there hasn’t been a definitive canonical answer?

I was just wondering if I’d missed something.

Shalamayne might have some fragment of his soul so I can see it as being a plot point where Anduin talks to his dad and comes to terms with his issues

You won’t find one. Trust me I’ve looked. Blizz had never confirmed or denied anything. Even worse, teased us with a SL cinematic where you see his soul for a brief second.

Tbh this is probably all you’ll get with responses. About how my last debate on this topic went lol.

He’s in the cinematic when you defeat the Anduin encounter in Sepulcher. Saurfang is there too. Was that not supposed to be their ghosts?

Another huge point of speculation. Was it their souls in shadowlands/maw or was it soul fragments because they were both wielders of shalamayne?

Neither has been confirmed or denied.
“It is not stated whether these appearances of Varian and Varok were their actual souls or only part of Anduin’s imagination, or perhaps memories held by Shalamayne.”

Someone could have at least picked up that skull and foot that can be found on Broken Shore not far from the raid entrance. :expressionless:

No one knows. People freely assume, based on how it was revealed that Fel Magic works over the years.

However, considering that we’re making our third rounds of goodbyes to Ysera inspite of being turned to a constellation like four expansions ago I’d say anything is possible

Yeah, I assumed he’s completely gone back when I first saw the cinematic back in Legion.

But, with the way things have been, I started to wonder if we ever got anything definitive, and I’d maybe just missed it.

It’s really hard to say definitively.
However, I believe Shalamayne specifically had some implications with helping quell his split soul thing due to Onyxia meddlings back in vanilla, so there’s a distinct possibility that at least something remains in the blade. But that’s just a theory that may or may not be capitalized.
I’d love to see Lo’gosh (Varian’s ‘aggressive soul’) make a return and just start all sorts of hijinks because he’s full throttle all of the time.

But then again, Blizzard could just as easily say Gul’dan entirely consumed and obliterated his soul.

When in doubt, read the wikis. They’ll include all game lore AND books. It’s also fun to deepdive stuff like that. This game has an incredible amount of lore (except when important characters die and blizz creates plotholes) lol.
