So messing around with the PTR, I discovered a couple things that kindof bother me, but I’m not sure if they’re working as intended, or if it’s just a bug.
The first question is Vanish. Currently, even while faerie fired, you’re able to vanish to break roots, but it doesn’t actually make you stealth. It just breaks the root, then immediately jumps you out of stealth. I noticed that on the PTR, with the prepatch changes, faerie fire actually grays out your vanish and it can’t even be used. This is going to make Druids a nightmare, although I’m assuming Cloak of Shadows will make it much better (assuming you can even cloak with FF on). Is this how it’s supposed to work? Did this actually change in TBC, or is it a bug? I didn’t get beta access, so unfortunately I’m just working off of the PTR and can’t test cloak. It makes shadowstep feel almost worthless, because you shadowstep right behind the opponent, yet the root is still there. I guess you have to just step the root to begin with.
The second is Cheat Death. Again, I don’t have much experience with this, as I didn’t get into the beta and my memory from old-days retail is hazy. To me, it seems somewhat worthless, which is not at all how I remember it back in the day. Even after suffering a hit that would kill me, I notice no significant change to the damage I’m receiving. I tested it a bit with a Druid last night, who just spammed me with Wrath. When the wrath that would kill me landed, I didn’t die, however the damage he landed immediately afterward seemed to do full damage. Am I missing something? This doesn’t seem to be reducing incoming damage while active, but I’m not sure if I’m just missing something critical. Saving me from death but not reducing incoming damage seems to just delay dying by 1 second and isn’t making a huge difference.
These aren’t really complaints as much as just curiosity about the change. Are these two abilities currently working as intended, or is something amiss?
Cheat death on implementation was broken as all hell and took the nerf bat to the face a couple of times. It’s best use is basically in raids and not in pvp though it still has it’s uses there.
Yes vanish 100% works this way in tbc. You can not cast it with FF on you.
Also, the cheat death thing is kind of hard to explain without video evidence. Cheat death returns you to your original health right before the killing blow. So let’s say for whatever reason a mage literally one shots you at 100% health. Cheat death procs and you are at 100% health with 90% reduction for 3 seconds.
Now let’s say you are at literally 1 health, someone hit you with a spell and you cheat death, returning to 1 health and 90% reduction.
So in your scenario, I can’t tell you if it’s bugged because let’s say the wrath hits for 2000. You are at 200 health, wrath hits, cheat death procs and you stay at 200 health, another wrath hits for 200 which is 10% of the original damage but you still die.
If you have a video or combat logs it would be easier to tell.
