If the system is effective, then that crowd will just go play private servers or crypto scam “games”. And that’s the crux of it. If the system is effective at applying punishment, then it will indeed curve player behavior.
Back when GDKP on SoD got banned, I remember hearing people in era voice chat worried about sending gold from their bank alts in the mail for a brief while. Why would they be worried?
Blizz would need to be hypervigilant and perma ban accounts for buyers and sellers almost immediately after the infraction with zero second chances and keep at it until it becomes clear that buying gold is something that’s never gonna work in the buyers favor at all, ever.
Anything short of that is a waste of time and should have been done years ago.

I play era every now and then, just leveling.
I was thinking the other day… The wonder to me of Classic is leveling, there’s so many good quests. Modern wow lost that with only have 5-10 levels per expansion, locking everything behind endgame and whatnot.
I mean sure, I enjoy Endgame a bit, but Classic feels engaging when leveling. An Actual Journey. It’s not really a journey anymore, though if it was I doubt I’d have a group to play with anymore. XD

Sure, one will cry about the gold flooded economy, but because we no longer have the massive amount of gold buyers we also dont have a botters problem either. As a result the Era economy while inflated is very stable and active.
I want one fresh server so the forum dwellers can quit crying about the populated era servers. Most the people on era have been able to experience the wonders of leveling. We now get to play it like a tournament realm where we can bg/wpvp with our geared characters. The gear treadmill can stay in retail or progression (cata) servers.
Classic feel dies for me after I reach level 40.
The zones… The mobs, the dungeon themes and layouts… All trash. Then the dread sets in for 50-55 for pre bis farming.
Meta gaming is just… bleh… That is coming from someone who mythic raids on retail… I just hate it but you have to do it if you want to get the “true” endgame.
I cant just hop on Era anymore and have fun when all there is to do is naxx speed runs on whitemane or get ganked by 4 rogues while leveling. Sucks.
I like the taste of FRENCH vanilla way better, but even that’s a bit plain for me(SoD).
