It is quite literally never useless. sancing fears and stuns alone is a majority of classes in the game already. It also removes blanket silences, which is good against spriest and dk. Removing horror effects is good against spriest. The only thing it really cant remove is incaps, which is not a big deal seeing as stuns are typically longer and do not break to any damage. Its a trinket for your healer every 45s they are in cc, and while you might get crossed, you can outplay that via positioning -or- by throwing sanc early to give your healer reduced cc duration at the very least. But usually you can sanc before getting crossed or avoid the cross to sanc.
Its not necessarily a fixation on sanc, just that its one of the strongest things in rets kit and whenever ret is very good, it gets played with ret/war and people get frustrated because the comp just runs at you and ccing the healer is far more annoying because of sanc on top of everything else that ret brings (loh, bop/spellwarding, freedom) that allows for stopping damage/gos or negating a go. I also suggest removing sanc because I dont think you’d want anything else removed, and something would have to go if rets want to be doing competitive damage. Sanc is the one piece of utility that you cant really use on yourself to save yourself, so unless you’d wanna lose LoH/bop or spellwarding/freedom you would need to lose sanc.

this is not 2005 dude. ret is a damage dealer and has to deal damage to find success. again, there is not “ackshually ret has so much support that yes they deserve no damage”. you named things ret has I can name things it doesnt have. every spec is differnt. there is not “if you want X you have to lose Y” becuase as Ive said it, nobody thought warriors would be balanced with all their tools now, or rogues, or shamans.
sanctuary is the ONLY pvp talent of value ret has (100% pickrate). Oh wait, it no loger is, warriors have sanc too now gee its almost as if its no longer unique.

You know it’s crazy about the mobility? Frost mages, I don’t know about the other specs, have so much instant casting that it doesn’t make sense how much mobility.

Idk about always. I think thats a new change from DF 10.1 to now. I feel like most of slands (and 10.0.7) it was just straight up a 1shot bot that also had utility and healing/sustained damage (depending on which slands season).
That being said, ret feels like a garbage aff lock atm where it has meaninglessly high overall damage that’s just pad and really doesn’t result in kills.
Seems fine in shuffle because utility is still good, but the actual meaningful damage just is not there.
The other 2 mage specs are disgusting as well. Its just Blink x2, Displacement being another blink, alter can be used as a blink, and then on top of that they have movement speed baked into a lot of things in their class tree and they have a ton of roots and slows in their class tree as well. Frost is the most annoying due to frostbite though, the most passive and annoying root in the game.
In terms of their defense, it is absolutely absurd they went to nerf mage survivability (which was needed, they were too tanky in 11.0) and ended up making them stronger than they have been in such a long time with Overpowered Barrier. Its like a 4 mil+shield every 18ish seconds, and for Arcane it makes you immune to damage for 3 seconds when you blink after Barrier. Yes Barrier can be purged, but you are not guaranteed to get it at all. So they do top damage, have an immunity on an 18ish second cd, have insane mobility, have very good cc, they just have it all man idk.
And yeah all 3 specs largely have instant casts. Frost actually ends up casting the most in between its instant frostfire bolts from what I’ve vsed, but all 3 barely cast.
Rets always been switching between 2 playstyles for the most part. It’s either disgusting cheesy 1 shot damage or good sustain + good burst with wings. But for the most part it’s more often the latter or the two. This xpac though the specs been super confused because of how often we have access to wings now. Having wings be super impactful like it usually is, would be over the top. So we kinda have just the sustain. They could prob balance it pretty well if they buffed the damage bull from final reckoning. Since it would be a good alternative rather than just buffing wings damage which they can’t do.
Don’t forget altar resets blink too
Yeah its just insane man. This is what I meant when I said it feels like some specs are always punished when they cross the line into having too much, some specs are even prevented from having too much, and then theres specs like mage and rogue (and now maybe feral) etc that are actively given too much and when they are slightly behind they are buffed quickly. Like why did rogue also need 40% DR when in stuns this patch? Meanwhile shaman loses a major personal CD this patch, dk loses survivability via necrotic wounds heal going away, its just odd.
