Using Battle.net balance to pay for subscription

Question one:
Can I fill my battle.net account, with only enough cash to pay for one months worth of subscription, from my credit card and then use battle.net account to pay for 1 month recurring subscription.

Question two:
If I pay my subscription by battle.net account, will it automatically deduct funds from attached Credit Card without ever asking me for approval? (because I have purchased a recurring subscription)

Question three: (If my CC does not get charged for next sub)
If there are not enough funds in the following month after paying ONE month through battle.net balance, will my subscription just expire?

Question four: (If my CC is charged for battle.net payment of recurring subscription)
when is it safe to cancel subscription? Can I pay, and then immediately cancel subscription, or will I lose game time that I paid for?

You can not set up a subscription with balance. You can only buy prepaid game time in 60 day increments. You can buy that under game services.

Additionally, you can safely cancel a subscription about a day or two later and not lose the time you purchased.

Thanks Kozzae, but there are more questions here…

MAINLY… how can I pay for only 30 days at a time, because that’s all I’m paying for.

Can I cancel subscription immediately??? will it affect time purchased, or will I no longer be subscribed and therefore cannot play?

I would prefer a blue answer, so I know its bulletproof.

Can I subscribe, then immediately cancel my subscription, all in one sitting. Will I still be subscribed for the entire next month?

Yes, you can cancel, as long as you do so before the next bill date. The game time will not end when you cancel, it will continue until you run out.

Most of these questions are likely outlined in the support part of the site.

Just so you know this is a player help player forum with Blizzard supervision. There is no guarantee t hat a blue will respond.

That said, you can absolutely cancel your sub once the payment has processed. You will have access to the purchased gametime, but then need to resub and do the process all over again if you want to in essence go month to month without a “sub”

I think all 4 of the questions can be answered by answering the first. Battle.net Balance cannot be used to pay for a subscription. Only billable payment methods, like a Debit or Credit Card or pay systems like PayPal, may be used to set up a subscription.

If you set up a subscription with one of those payment methods, it is a recurring option so your method of payment would be charged for the option you selected when game time ran out.

As long as the subscription has been charged, you can cancel the subscription and the game time from that period’s subscription option will remain on the account.

You aren’t asking complicated questions, these the basics of how subscriptions work. While I tend to answer what I can, a blue response is by no means guaranteed. You can submit a ticket if you want a guaranteed reply from a Game Master, though the answers are available on the site if you use the search option.

It would depend on your timing. A normal subscription only bills when the account has no game time on it. So if you want to do it that way you’d need to wait until all of your game time ran out on the account before attempting to add your subscription, wait for the initial purchase to submit, then remove it.

I mostly only subscribe exactly like this. I always found it faster to just subscribe and cancel than to find game time in the store. I have never had any issues cancelling immediately - within a minute of subbing. I’m not sure if there exists a time that is too fast to cancel where it may cause issues, or whether your payment method could matter.

To re-iterate what Vrak mentions above - your sub needs to be actually expired, so it bills out right away.

But this doesn’t answer in-depth to the question why blizzard doesn’t allow it for the battle.net balance too. To me it’s nonsensical. Why not to have a battle.net balance worthy of equal to 30-days of WoW game time/sub time and when the next recurrence is due, and there aren’t enough funds on the battle.net balance, just don’t prolong the subscription. Easy as that.

I imagine it’s most likely because traditionally a subscription requires a guaranteed and uninterrupted backing payment source, but at any rate, do keep in mind this is a 4 year old thread and CSF is meant for people to access immediately useful information.

Probably because of tech limitations between the 3rd party credit card processing vendor and Blizzard. Implementing a middle-man system to do what you think is ‘easy as that’ most likely isn’t. Otherwise, you’d think, Blizzard would have a system in place already.

Besides necro’ing a rather old thread, you are certainly welcome to make the suggestion via the appropriate avenues - in-game feedback or appropriate forum (maybe general).

This affects any business’ bottom line. They get charged an authorization fee every time a transaction is attempted whether the transaction is declined or not. What that fee is is worked out between Blizzard and their processor. It could potentially be a technical limitation as Nephe mentioned, but it is definitely a financial limitation.

With a financial source that is theoretically infinite as long as the cardholder keeps up with payments, declined transactions still happen but not nearly as much.

It really isn’t “easy as that”. The system doesn’t work that way, subscriptions depend on billable payment methods. If you wish to buy blocks of game time with Battle.net Balance that is an option through the shop.

This thread is from 4 years ago so I’m going to close it up.
