I wanted to make this post, because in my time of playing WoW I’ve always liked to use keybinds with multiple modifiers. For example, I will use SHIFT+CTRL+F1 to SHIFT+CTRL+F10 for various in-game macros. However, now I have a lot of wrist issues, so I can’t type as much as I used to.
To deal with this issue, I got myself a Koolertron programmable keyboard with up to 24 simple macro and complex macro keys. This allows me, for example, to program a single key press to do SHIFT+CTRL+F1 for me instead of having to press all 3 keys at once on my keyboard. It also allows me to program a key to execute a sequence of commands (for example, keybind 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) with a small delay in between each command, for example when I’m buffing my groupmates in raids. I found that this really helps me with the wrist pain when I’m playing WoW. I’m having to do fewer key presses by getting more stuff done per key press.
I was just wondering if this is okay to do, or if I could get in trouble for doing this.
Perfectly fine, as it follows the ‘one keypress = one action’ rule.
Not so fine, as it violates the ‘one keypress = one action’ rule.
I’m not much of an authority on macros, but I would think it might be possible to write one that will target the next party/raid member before casting.
As the others mentioned, using multiple functions with a keyboard macro can be considered automation, but we also understand that these options can make game play a bit easier for some users who might have some limitations and/or pain when playing.
I’d recommend reaching out to the Accessibility Team, they may have some options/advice that would allow you to play without causing any issues.
Thank you, I will reach out to them and ask what is allowed/not allowed, and in the case where something is not allowed, what may be a viable alternative that won’t break the rules.
