Upgrade Outlands to 2021 graphical levels

I distinctly remember going through the dark portal years ago and being amazed at the look of everything. Unfortunately, graphics have advanced well beyond the 2007 outlands, and id love to see the game world updated a bit. we are about to spend the next year and a half running around the zones.

i know people are touchy about character models, set that aside for a moment. I think we would all enjoy a polished up outlands. thoughts?

Inside a recent interview released it has Burning Crusade cinematics in the background with the new models.

I’m probably blind but I cannot find the video source and its driving me crazy. Is this fan made or a teaser of some sorts? Something added in Retail?

Looks pretty good and I’d be happy either way.

I am all for graphical changes. It doesnt change the game play.

Meh.

The Burning Crusade - Patch 2.1: The Black Temple - YouTube

Those were from the old cinematic trailers from back then.

Don’t care about other graphical changes.

Classic looks and plays so much better than Retail WoW. It’s amazing how a game from 2004 is graphically superior to this 2021 version…where everything is way overly cartoony, all the animations are bouncy and overexaggerated. The style has been gutted from the game. It’s just so generic now.

Retails upgraded graphics is one of the reasons why i stopped playing it. So no thank you!

And they(whoever) updated the models for it somehow? Interesting! I knew it looked familiar.

What I think they did was had the animation department actually make those animations directly without using the in game models. I think the fact that they resemble the later updated models is just coincidence, or possibly due to the fact that it was the same animators, or that they purposefully tried to match the new models to those cinematics.

I suspect it’ll get the same treatment as Classic.

TBC’s world models and graphics are actually better than “vanilla”, get on retail and go check it out. TBC is basically untouched. The only part that does not get an upgrade in TBC are the character models and those are fine. Many preference the Classic character models and animations, they are actually really good.

If you have an account for Classic you have an account for Retail and the only thing you will not be able to play in retail is Shadowlands.

I wanted to argue and then I remembered how true this is.

God damn shaman animations are disgusting now days.

Really? I think some of the newer Shaman animations are among the coolest they’ve done. Healing Surge being this swirling torrent of water that is conjured up and flows from your hands towards the target is really cool.

The lightning abilities also look a lot better.

I’ve never once heard a shaman say wow splashing water at people is way better than our old nature healing.

Mop ascen was better than current, classic WF animation is better than that small puff of wind.

I do admit some of the other enh animations are nice.

Lightening animations I don’t mind either versions.

The redone Arathi Highlands makes me barf, along with Stormsong Valley. They dialed that cartoony factor to 11 in BFA.

It’s so “saccharine”

They went WAY too cartoony.

I wish they would have stuck with the gritty concept art route.

It’s a thematic change, likely to differentiate them from Druids. I think Shaman healing spells were always meant to be water themed anyways.

Healing Wave.
Healing Surge.
Healing Stream Totem.
Mana Tide Totem.

You get the picture.

I’m not criticizing every graphical change in the game. But on the whole I liked it MUCH better back in the old days. Particularly the run animations and look of the races. There’s so many races now I can’t even play because they’re so stupidly cartoony. They all run like they’re bouncing around on a trampoline. It’s obnoxious. Yes, the game was always a bit cartoony but in the past it was gritty cartoony. Now it’s just…silly. Like they’re trying to appeal to 3 year olds.

As far as casting animations, that’s a design choice they made I don’t agree with. They used to be race specific, and now they’re class specific. Not all spells, but select ones. I know why they did that: if you play two classes of the same race so that you can have unique animations rather than just the same ones. But I preferred it when I found a race I liked and would choose based on that. I’m sure thematically Blizzard feels having unique class casting animations makes sense, but again I tend to think it more likely the way a character casts would rely more on their race, not their class. Having dwarves and orcs share casting animations is just…weird.

I’d argue the water is a way more interesting aesthetic than “generic healing green light”

damn right about that one, who the hell on the dev team thought going from a literal storm god to just tossing near-invisible puffs of air was a good idea?
