[UPDATED JUNE 25] Prepare for Lift Off: Get Ready for Flying in Chains of Domination

Took them a week but they finally clarified (and fixed the goof):

“Updated June 10: The description for Memories of Sunless Skies has been revised to clarify that players with Expert Riding Skill can fly in Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Revendreth. Characters that do not have Expert Riding Skill will still need to purchase it.”

I guess all we needed to do was ask…

I’m glad they clarified.

It wasn’t a “clarification”. The article clearly stated purchase was going to be necessary, and implied it would be necessary on all characters. That was very badly received, and the reception pointed to a number of sticking points. They changed the requirement to remove that.

At least there’s no highmountain this expansion to make even flying still suck. Fly up for about 6 minutes then aim where you actually WANT to go.

Thanks for the clarification Blizzard!

Eh, for Highmountain, I simply used the taxi. There just wasn’t any point in trying to go anywhere in Highmountain from outside of it with a manual flying mount.

I always took trips to Highmountain as an excuse to go to the bathroom, get a drink, snack, take a walk back and forth the house to loosen my legs up, etc.

Either that, or I’d alt-tab to discord or something or browse the net while the taxi did its thing.

The clarification was between the written article and the ptr.

It was a change. The article clearly stated that purchase was necessary. They changed that because it was so badly received.

I don’t think that’s right. It was like that on the ptr from the start.

I could be wrong though. Do you have a reference for when it was changed in the ptr from being purchased on each character to no purchase requirement at all?

Purchase of Expert Riding Skill.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are players who zip to 50 and don’t have expert riding skill.

So the people who said you’d have to purchase something on every single alt were technically correct. The best kind of correct!

(Just ignore all the alts that already have expert riding skill…)

Gee, it only took a week to “clarify” this poorly worded announcement. Thanks, I guess.

FWIW, I kind of feel like it wasn’t poorly worded at all, but more of a “Let’s throw this out there, and see how much crap hits the fan because of it. Maybe we can deal another blow to flying without too many sub losses” thing, and it didn’t go how they hoped.

…really helpful.

thanks.

1 week* patch 9.1 will go live, then the next tuesday, the 2nd week of stuff starts and youll be able to finish and fly. so its only a 1 week wait from 9.1 till you can fly. i have no clue how you got 3 weeks…

I literally got Blanchy a week before my sub runs out. Good to know that if I come back, I can use her to fly. I love that mount.

When is 9.1?

they should drop it when ff14 drops content just cuz.

It was in the announcement that players would have to purchase flight after using the consumable. It appeared to be saying that flight would have to be purchased on each character. This was discussed in the thread that the CM started. The joke was that they were saying that “You asked for the ability to buy flight on all your characters. We listened and we gave you that!” by adding a purchase requirement on all characters to the other requirements.

They edited the announcement, but the discussion probably still exist in the thread.

But the ptr had always been in a state where you didn’t have to purchase flying. That was before they updated the announcement.

That makes it seem more like the announcement was worded wrong.

I’m very skeptical, especially when it comes to blizz. But in this case I’ll, just barely, give them the benefit of the doubt.
