[UPDATED JUNE 25] Prepare for Lift Off: Get Ready for Flying in Chains of Domination

Finally they corrected themselves. Took a whole week. Still don’t understand why the confusion was started to begin with, expert riding was always required to fly, regardless of pathfinder.

Because they put in writing that we’d be purchasing it for each character.

How things have functioned in the past means nothing, they can change things however they want. Charging for flying doesn’t seem outlandish for blizz to all a sudden start doing.

A partial patch preview on the forums? With no release date announced? Blizzard trying to troll us?

Blizzard, you’ve fallen. Hard.

This is how I interpreted the initial post:

The player needed to have 225 riding skill paid for. I don’t think any pathfinder has also granted the requisite riding skill when completed, but this is the first expansion with such tight leveling due to the squish that I’m not surprised Blizzard felt the need to add that flying had to be purchased.

Sure. But the way they’ve been implementing systems and how they worded it didn’t line up with your interpretation.

Again, them clarifying was useful.

Definitely helpful they clarified, agreed

As rational as this reasoning is, you have to remember that rational reasoning means nothing to the irrational observer.

It was a possibility that the purchase step was removed from ptr for testing purposes. Add a poorly written article (apparently) and Blizzard’s track record lately and it wasn’t that farfetched to ask for clarifications.

Totally fair. That’s why I ended up asking the question to the blue op, and why people should aim to do the same rather than wasting their time trolling each other.

Meh, hate this expac, I’ll get it when I decide to get flying in WoD, ala never. F Blizz, this game sucks. Maybe next expansion will be worth playing?

I can count on one hand the amount of times Blue posts have been consistent in a row.

So edgy. I bet you go to midnight movie releases and tell everyone how you aren’t even going to watch this movie because it’s so bad. Just stand out front while everyone enjoys their movie, and tell passersby how the producers can call you for advice, but how you’ll totally ghost them, because you’re so edgy and cool.

He’s not really wrong though. Nothing about this expansion has been really amazing. Too many systems that are bad, too much doubling down on things that people don’t want to do (and sometimes trippling down on it). Idk, if someone likes this expansion…then cool I guess, but I only know a handful of people that are actual into it, everyone else is either indifferent or honestly dislikes it. There’s too much bad in this xpac.

This.

I’m someone who has been “singing praises” about FFXIV lately, but what I think a lot of people don’t realize, is that I have played WoW ever since Vanilla, and I have, by my estimation, put several thousand hours into it over the years. I did a calculation in another thread somewheres, and I forget, it was some astronomically silly 5-digit number when I counted it all up using armory and /played for my characters.

There’s the thing…

I Want WoW To Be Fun!

But the problem is, Ion just doesn’t know what Fun is anymore. He tunnel-visions Mythic Dungeons and Raid with some PvP on the side. That’s all he thinks anybody wants to do. He forgets there’s a collection of people out there that just wanna chill in the game, and heck, even the Raiders and Mythic people aren’t happy about all of these systems-ontop-of-systems nature of Systemlands…err Shadowlands.

It’s not that I hate WoW.
I want WoW to be good.
I want my fun MoP WoW back. Or heck, even Legion wasn’t that bad.

I miss when WoW was fun.

But unless Ion somehow has some kind of epiphany and does a complete 180 from what he’s been doing the last few years and suddenly realizes why MoP and Legion were fun while WoD, BfA and Shadowlands are not… we’re never gonna get that back.

So…

FFXIV it is, I guess. I’ll poke around in WoW now-and-then, because you know, I have a ridonkulous investment in my characters, but I just don’t do so with the gusto that I once did. I log on for an hour, maybe two, and pluck a little at one of my characters and then log off bored, or I’ll ask myself “why am I even doing this, what’s the point? It’s not like any of this will mean anything when there’s nothing to do at max level but anima grind”.

There’s no daily dungeon, there’s no decent LFR content, there’s no casual endgame goals like Timeless Isle, or heck, I hate to say it, but even Argus had better content than what BfA did. I tried a little of that stuff with the void stuff during its last patch and it was just so… meh. Random gear that gives you worse penalties than boons, unless you got lucky on RNG… lol. No thanks.

I might go back there sometime and do it now that it’s easy and I don’t have to use the gear, and the corruption system is gone, but it’s not current anymore, which kills a chunk of what should have been fun.

If 90% of the game is going to be “wait until it’s obsolete content” then… uh. Why am I even playing anymore?

And I think a lot of people are asking themselves that very question.

And I know that the hardcore die-hard WoW fans hate stuff like this being said, but it’s true. A lot of people think like this. It’s just the diehard fans are really heavy on the copium that they don’t want to accept it.

When you need to rely on 12 year old content to keep your game going, you know something is wrong. Without Classic and TBC classic, I think WoW probably wouldn’t even be here today. BfA was tanking, hard… and Systemlands isn’t doing all that much better. 12 year old content is carrying WoW at the moment, and anybody can see that.

I found that pic of my /played. 39,236 hours. And this screenshot was taken a month and a half ago, so you could probably add, I dunno, 50-100.

Keep in mind that Blizzard let all the people that made this game what it was go. Everyone designing the game now has beyond F’d the game bad. It is obvious that they did not play the game for the years past with all that they have ruined. (and theres a lot) I would not expect anything logical to get flying.

I wonder what it is with companies doing this. Blizz aren’t the only ones.

Ever heard of Subnautica and UWE?

Subnautica was awesome. And then, they outed or fired half of their staff, mostly the designers, for dubious reasons, and then they push out Below Zero which is a huge downgrade in quality, and just because they’re waving the diversity flags, everybody praises it, while anybody that speaks up about the obvious flaws of BZ get flak about “not being supportive of diversity”.

It’s just madness. I am so tired of this crap already.

Smart to be honest to not time gate flying. They are already so far behind on momentum this year.

Sorry for the bad news, but it is time-gated. 44 renown is needed to fly, so we still have to wait a week after 9.1 release to be able to fly.

Yea thank god it only took 9 months to get flying. Imagine if it was actually time gated!!

Perhaps this is merely my perception

“oh it won’t be a grind this time”
but
also
“renown level 44”
“chapter 12 of your covenant, but only chapter 9 is currently up”

^ ^ ^

What part of this is “not a grind”? Someone really doesn’t understand that grinding is boring
