[UPDATED JUNE 25] Prepare for Lift Off: Get Ready for Flying in Chains of Domination

To be fair, it’s not the CS/CMs that are the reason that they can’t say anything. They are strictly limited on what subjects they can engage with the community on. The fact that there has been no Blue clarification on this so far means that it’s the developers, not the CMs, who are making the call on if there should be a response yet.

Which means that this is the equivalent of throwing chum in the water and seeing if it churns.

Remember the time when you could just hit max level and earn enough gold to fly whenever you wanted? Not sit through a time gated questline or farm reputation for a month or do a million more quests. It was as simple as flying skill, cold weather, hot weather… yep good times.

Hey Blizzard, no matter how “simplified” you make it, it is still annoying and it feels like we are doing chores. Rewarding is downing an epic boss in a Demons/Dark Souls game, not doing laundry.

Not that i’m not upset also, but please read.

Quote Bliz:

Before you unfurl your wings, you must progress through the newest chapters within your covenant campaign, specifically early into “The Last Sigil” (chapter 12 of the covenant campaign). This chapter unlocks when you reach Renown Level 44, accessible within the second week of Chains of Domination.

Rank 45 gets you the mount, 44 gets you flying.

With all due respect, we’re 6 months into the patch at this point…how are you still at renown level 1? I’m not sure that’s even possible unless:

A) You just created your character / just got to Shadow Lands
B) You literally haven’t played the game in 6 months.

If you’re behind, you aren’t locked at “2 renown a week”…you can get many.

I’m at renown 9 now, I think. I just got SLs about a week ago. I’m in no hurry which is good since it takes me a long time to do anything.

  • Also, when I wrote that I wanted to be able to fly along with everyone else.
Now, I’m not sure I’ll be able to but I’m still trying to get there.

According to recent PTR testing, gaining flight does not involve purchasing anything. Now, whether that will be the case at release I have no idea. I can only say - it better be.

I just wish it wasn’t tied to Renown. There should be no reason why it can’t be a simple timegate of a week or two, perhaps involving exploring the new zone, earning a bit of rep with one of the new factions there and then doing a quest. Why lock it behind Renown, especially for those players who got burned out by it and left early (can anyone really blame them?).

100% agree with you on this. One of my favorite things about this game is leveling alts, but if I have to purchase flying on all of them after an already pathfinder-ish grind I’m done.

I want us to have to purchase flying.

I also like watching the world burn.

Cataclysm was your favorite expansion then, huh?

Why did I read this as “Flying Chains of Domination”?

It is tied to renown because of the campaign quest that gives you the flying memory .

It is tied to Renown because they like us to grind stuff we don’t necessarily want to grind. Renown is earned by doing constant, tedious and generally boring Callings (yet another form of repeat content).

There are equally reasonable ways of putting it into the game. They just choose to do it in a way that increased their metrics.

Making progress. Why use any other mount afterwards. One and done! :+1:

I saw that today, too. My Gnome Warlock is collecting the items to unlock Blanchy, and then I’ll just have to wait around for the spawns.

There are always custom groups forming for Blanchy spawns. That’s how I was able to get em done in 6 days. Worth the six days to get the mount! Good luck to ya!

So let me get this straight, this is supposed to be alt friendly expansion, yet now we have to buy Flying on all of our characters? What the heck?

I’d rather just get rep exalted than pay for it on every character.
The item has been in the PTR for almost 2 months now and now you are suddenly going to change it in hopes we don’t see it? You are wrong and that better be a typo. We don’t need more bull crappery for alts.

Especially when we have more alts in this expansion’s content than any previous one. This is the first time I’ve ever had more than 12 (one for each class), and I am over 20 this time around… so far…

To get people to re-subscribe, make then wait a week for no good reason to try and coax them into staying subscribed.

It’s a ridiculous and needless timegate.

Then they try to use flying as an actual feature of patch 9.1, even more ridiculous.

Worst expansion to date, EASILY by a country mile or ten thousand miles.

Can you please clarify if it’s intended to have players “Purchase” flying on EACH character after unlocking it on an account through the item?

This makes me happy.
