Yeah, I’m very much in favor of updating the Holiday events. Little stuff like that helps make the world feel alive. We’ve pretty much been doing the same stuff for over 10 years.
If they want to make the game feel like it’s an MMO again, then this would help a little.
Heh, yep my levelling Void Elf ran across that last night. Saw the building on fire, remembered what was needed to unlock it, was trying to enjoy a relaxing trip around the candy buckets and moved on. Not before standing in the fire for a few minutes because it can’t hurt you and my void elf is surprisingly defiant.
FFXIV does that every year. If you’re not there, you either miss out, or can buy the thing next year with event currency.
But they always do something new every holiday. Not always something substantial (though their anniversary event remains one of the best things I’ve seen an MMO do - literally the head developer has a quest chain every year where he personally thanks you for playing the game!)
Also, never forget that one year’s Halloween event in FFXIV, they gave everyone a permanent flying broom mount
